The petrol model Audi R8 LMS ultra won the 24h race at the Nürburgring 2012. One month later, the Audi R18 e -tron quattro the first overall victory of a hybrid vehicle at the 24h race in Le Mans. Now the all-electric Audi R8 e-tron has been set on a record run at the Nürburgring, because the lap time on the Nordschleife serves as a figurehead for many manufacturers and is also s port auto an important assessment criterion in the super test.
Record time for series electric cars at the Ring
Racing driver Markus Winkelhock, who already drove the 24h R8 winning car, was allowed to drive on 26 June 2012 set the record lap time on the 20.8-kilometer Eifel circuit in an electric sports car. The Audi R8 e-tron lapped the Nordschleife in 8: 09.099 minutes, setting the record for purely electrically powered series vehicles at the Nürburgring. Only the top speed on the record car is said to have been changed from 200 to 250 km /h. With the standard limitation of 200 km /h, Winkelhock drove a second Audi R8 e-tron a Nordschleife lap time of 8: 26.096 minutes and two laps in a row in just under 16.57 minutes.
“Of course it is R8 e-tron is not a racing car with aerodynamic aids, but a production car, ”reports Winkelhock after the record drive. “But with its low center of gravity and the weight distribution that emphasizes the rear, it has high sporting qualities. The torque with which the electric motors push uphill beats everything I know - even if they hardly make any noise, which is a completely new experience at the beginning. Wherever I rely on traction, torque vectoring helps me shift the moments between the driven wheels. ”
Small series of the Audi R8 e-tron as early as 2012
At the turn of the year Audi wants to offer the R8 e-tron electric sports car in a small series, which uses two electric motors as a drive. Together they should develop 280 kW of power and 820 Nm of torque. According to the manufacturer, the rear wheels should have over 4,900 Nm and accelerate the Audi R8 e-tron from zero to 100 km /h in 4.6 seconds.
With a total weight of 1,780 kilograms, the Audi R8 e weighs -tron only 150 kilograms more than the V8 petrol engine, because the body consists essentially of aluminum and CFRP components. The T-shaped lithium-ion battery is located in the center tunnelas well as in the area between the passenger compartment and the rear axle. A maximum of 49 KWh of energy can be stored, which is recharged by recuperation when coasting and braking and enables a driving distance of around 215 kilometers.
Overview of the electric car record lap times
The Mini E Race set the fastest lap time for electric cars on the Nordschleife on April 12, 2010 with 9: 51.45 minutes. Only one year later, on April 27, 2011, was the Peugeot EX1 significantly faster with a lap time of 9: 01.338 minutes. Toyota set the record on August 29, 2011 - with a documented Nordschleife lap time of 7: 47.794 minutes for the Toyota EV Racer. The Electric RaceAbout (ERA) set the lap time record for street-legal electric cars with 8.42 minutes on September 26, 2011.
