Audi is recalling 76,098 vehicles from various model series worldwide due to problems with the oil supply to the turbochargers.
Audi is recalling 76,098 vehicles worldwide (USA 26,053), including 12,204 vehicles in Germany from the production period 2012 to 2017. Oil/carbon deposits contained in the engine oil could clog the oil strainer in the oil supply for the turbochargers.
A clogged oil screen in the turbocharger oil supply leads to insufficient lubrication of the turbocharger bearings. This leads to wear on the bearings and as a result the turbocharger turbine wheel can touch the housing or the turbocharger shaft can break. This could result in a lack of power or even engine stalling, which could increase the risk of an accident.
The following Audi model series are affected by the recall:
👟 RS
At the NHTSA the recall is under case number 22V-178, can be found at the Federal Motor Transport Authority under the KBA reference number 011729 and from the manufacturer itself under the code 21H7. There is currently no recall for Germany in this regard.,
Conclusion
Audi has to make improvements to 76,098 vehicles from different model series worldwide. In certain vehicles, oil/carbon deposits in the engine oil could clog the oil strainer in the oil supply for the turbocharger - with fatal consequences for the expensive component.
