D that Americans are supposed to buy American cars is basically nothing new political demand in the USA - the only new thing is the massive threat of punitive tariffs for non-American models. Since 1994, automakers in the USA have had to indicate the proportion of value added for new vehicles in the USA. The 'American Automobile Labeling Act' stipulated that the place of final assembly as well as the origin of the engine and transmission must be stated for every new vehicle. This information is documented with a sticker on the car. In addition, all information is listed in percent at the US traffic safety authority NHTSA. The origin of other supplier parts or the development location are not included in the assessment.

We have brought together the most American of all models sold in America based on the 2017 information in the photo show.

Toyota Camry is the American car

The highest value is 75% and is awarded for a model from a Japanese supplier. The most American of all US cars is the Toyota Camry.

The most American car of all US brands is the Jeep Wrangler with 73%, whereby Jeep belongs to Fiat-Chrysler and is therefore somehow Italian. The absolute US bestseller for years has been the Ford F-150 - but it is only 70% American. A Chevrolet Silverado, after all in second place in the 2016 bestseller, comes in only 38%. The Ram Pickup at number 3 on the bestseller list is only 59% American.

Mercedes C-Class particularly American

The most American of all American sports cars - the Chevrolet Corvette - only comes to 64%. US icons such as the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro only have a US share of 52 and 54% respectively.

Some of the models by German car manufacturers in the USA have no US share at all in terms of value added and The new US President Donald Trump is likely to focus even more on it.

The highest US share of a German car brand is offered by the Mercedes C-Class with 72%, followed by the Mercedes GLE with 65%. However, such a high US share is the exception. All other German car models offered in the USA have little to no US share. The two Mercedes models are followed by the VW Passat with only 30% US added value.

Behind that, it will be very poor. This is followed by the Mexico-made VW Beetle Cabrio (12%), VW Jetta (11%)and the VW Beetle (10%). All other German models have a US share of less than 10%. The Audi models only have 0 to 1% US added value; numerous Mercedes models such as the B-Class, CLA, CLE, E-Class and S-Class and all Porsche models have no US share.

BMW is not yet on the 2017 list, although the Labeling Act data for 2017 have already been communicated to the NHTSA, but in 2016 no BMW model came above 5%.
