D he Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance is the first of the major beauty pageants and traditionally sets the bar for the rest of the concours events of the year. The Concours, which has been held since 1996, attracts over 250 rare and high-quality vehicles to the North Atlantic every year.

Mercedes-Benz 300 SL by Natalie Wood

Even Hollywood greats are known to love beautiful cars. Some of these vehicles will be on display in Amelia Island. Natalie Wood's Mercedes-Benz 300 SL is one of them. The sports car was one of the favorite cars of stars and starlets in the 1950s. And as if a 300 SL weren't already sensational enough, the Hollywood star came up with the idea of having her Mercedes repainted in pink. At this year's Concours, on the occasion of the 60th birthday of Mercedes-Benz's first victory in Le Mans, he will compete in the 300 SL class. The vehicle has been meticulously restored and is now presented in the color silver-blue.

Another vehicle that will be on display at the Concours d'Elegance is a 1929 Duesenberg Model J Convertible Coupé, which was once the Belonged to actress Ginger Roger, who became world famous as Fred Astaire's dance partner. Like its former owner, the Duesenberg can look back on an eventful film career. It starred in the 1933 film 'The Gay Divorcee'. Only 481 copies of the Duesenberg Model J were built.

The 1937 Cord supercharged 812 Convertible is even rarer. In this vehicle, of which only 196 were built, US actor Tom Mix had a fatal accident in 1940. The car was completely destroyed in the accident and later rebuilt in detail by its current owner, Bob White.

50 years of the Ferrari 250 GTO

Another highlight at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance 2012 are the celebrations for the 50th birthday of the Ferrari 250 GTO. The exceptional athlete from Italy, built from 1962 to 1964, is considered the most beautiful Ferrari ever built and is duly celebrated as part of the Concours d'Elegance. The 250 GTO, which was developed for use in the Gran Turismo category, achieved prices of 14 million euros and more. The vehicle can look back on a more than successful racing history and won, among other things, victories in the Sebring 12-hour race, the Targa Florio, the 1000 km of Spa-Franchorchamps and in LeMans.

Vic 'Quick' Elford as Honorary President of the Aelia Island Concours

Ex-racing driver Vic 'Quick' Elford is the Honorary President of the Amelia Island Concouts in Florida. Elford is considered one of the most successful racing drivers of the 60s and 70s. Born in London in 1935, Elford took overall victory in a Porsche 911 in 1968 at the Monte Carlo Rally and was also very successful in other racing classes. Due to his numerous successes in various racing classes, he is still considered one of the most versatile racing drivers in the history of motorsport.
