A ls According to information from auto motor und sport, the first model will be equipped with the new B-Class, which will be released in March 2012. At the IAA in Frankfurt, Mercedes had presented the B-Class with the previously common refrigerant R-134a.

The new refrigerant is controversial

The introduction of the liquid, which is actually required for all cars with type approval after January 1, 2011, was delayed because an important supplier was unable to deliver due to the consequences of the earthquake in Japan. Only three Japanese manufacturers presented models with the new refrigerant at the IAA: Mazda the CX-5, Subaru the Model XV and Toyota the Prius +.

R1234yf, which the American company Honeywell produces, is controversial because it is in Forms highly corrosive hydrofluoric acid in the event of a vehicle fire. It causes severe burns to the skin and respiratory tract. That is why, for example, the professional association for fire services has spoken out against the introduction of R1234yf. In contrast, the German Fire Brigade Association sees no greater risk than with the previously used refrigerant R-134a.
