I n Many dangers of distraction lurk in modern cars due to the diverse systems. Finnish suppliers have now teamed up and developed a steering wheel that is intended to reduce driver distraction through intuitive circuits that have been adopted and adapted from mobile communication.

Known from smartphones

The new Origo steering wheel concept relies on intuitive switching elements in the steering wheel that can be activated with the thumb for access to non-driving-related functions. Mechanical switches or rockers are replaced by three-dimensional touch sensors on the Origo steering wheel. These are fully integrated into the steering wheel. You don't have to take your hands off the steering wheel to operate it.

Canatu

The Origo steering wheel concept was jointly developed by Canatu, Siili Auto, Rightware and TaktoTek. These companies from the mobility sector joined forces in October 2019 to form the consortium 'Mobile in-Vehicle Interaction and Intelligent Information Presentation' (MIVI). The MIVI research project is planned for 2 years, is financed by Business Finland and coordinated by the University of Tampere.
