'Overlanding' is the new magic word that makes more and more people's eyes light up to get. The term describes something that off-road vehicle and pickup drivers have taken for granted for decades: discovering new things far away from civilization and exploring areas that package tourists will never see. The route is the goal. In the meantime, however, this type of travel has arrived in the middle of the general camping boom and has therefore also landed in the manufacturers' marketing departments presented to the USA. The individual pieces are based on the midsize pickup Frontier, known to us as Nissan Navara, and on the large full-size truck Nissan Titan. They are equipped for long-distance and adventure trips, albeit with different backgrounds.
Expedition conversion for Nissan pickups
The Nissan Frontier 'Destination' is supposed to prove that you can do something with you can build an adventure car suitable for long-distance travel on a smaller budget. The goal was to stay below the limit of $ 40,000 including the base car. The Frontier is offered in the USA with a four- and a six-cylinder petrol engine, the cheapest model starts at around 19,000 dollars. There is a lot of money left for conversions, so much has been screwed into and into the Nissan Frontier Destination.
A lift kit from the in-house Nisstec department raises the pickup by seven centimeters, creating space for mud-terrain tires the dimension 33x11.5 R 17. Underride protection, sill protection and the stable front bumper come from 'Hefty Fabworks', a warning cable winch is built into the front bumper. Carrier systems are attached to the loading area and the cabin roof, and a roof tent is installed on the rear carrier. A large compressor cooler can be pulled out with a system of drawers.
A similar concept with a completely different background is the Nissan 'Ultimate Parks' Titan. The big truck with V8 engine was built for a good cause, it was donated to the park administration of the Grand Canyon National Park. The modifications to the 'Ultimate Parks' Titan are a little more extensive, it is designed to be a means of transport and accommodation for several park rangers at the same time in the impassable expanse of the national park.
Here too, a 3-inch comes -Higher suspension (seven centimeters) used, but the tires are slightly larger than on the Frontier Destination - 35x12.5 R 17 rubbers are on theblack alloy wheels mounted. Work lights are mounted on the front roof rack, the new reinforced front bumper takes a six-ton winch from Warn. It gets interesting right behind the cab: a combined welder generator from Miller is located in a side compartment of the loading area. The petrol-powered emergency power unit can be used for welding work and also has an integrated compressed air compressor. Repair work on park facilities is very easy.
If it takes a little longer with the observation drives in the national park, the UIltimate Parks Titan offers up to five beds: two people can cuddle in the hard shell roof tent, three There are more sleeping places in the folding tent trailer, which can go on tour with you if necessary.
