B already at the beginning of 2019 Mercedes had reissued the GLE (W167). From this model, the coupé is largely identical to the B-pillar. It is based on the MRA platform of the new E-Class and will therefore lose a few kilograms compared to its predecessor. In terms of dimensions, the GLE Coupé has added 20 millimeters of wheelbase, seven millimeters of width (2,010 mm) and 39 millimeters of length (4,939 mm). In terms of wheelbase, the Coupé undercuts the SUV by 60 millimeters.
Full LED headlights as standard
The windshield of the new generation of models is more flat than before, while the flanks below are flat. Plastic paneling and optional running boards, on the other hand, are intended to emphasize the “SUV” in the SUV Coupé (SUC). An A-shaped grill sits prominently on the new front, while that of the previous model was still tapered towards the bottom. In addition, the air inlets have grown and instead of a bead that runs through the door handles, there is now one above the handles.

At the rear there is a new diffuser, which is flanked by two tailpipe trims. All around Mercedes donated new full-LED headlights, and these are also standard. The SUC is optionally available on rim dimensions between 19 and 22 inches. The Stuttgart-based company builds the interior similar to the brand's already known SUV models. The two displays (each 12.3 inches) including the MBUX operating system are just as well known as the dashboard. The sports seats and the new sports steering wheel belong in the comingModel for standard equipment and should in turn contribute to a sporty coupé character.
Coupé or not, according to Mercedes, the new GLE Coupé offers more space in the interior than its predecessor . Because while the wheelbase in the GLE SUV is 60 millimeters more, as mentioned at the beginning, Mercedes has added 20 millimeters compared to the first SUC generation and has increased the entry dimension by 35 mm. With a maximum of 1,790 liters, the luggage compartment swallows significantly less than the standard SUV (2,055 liters) due to its design. At least it is a stately 655 liters, without folded back seats. If the loading sill is too high for you, you can lower it by up to 50 millimeters when the air suspension is booked. A third row of seats like in the SUV is of course not available for money or good words.
At least 272 hp in the SUV Coupé
The basic engine in the GLE Coupé is the OM 656, i.e. the six-cylinder in-line diesel of the current engine family. Mercedes offers it in two power levels: the 350 d 4Matic with 272 hp and the 400 d 4Matic with 330 hp. Thanks to the SCR catalytic converter in combination with an ammonia barrier catalytic converter, both variants meet the Euro 6d emissions standard. Furthermore, all variants are united by the 9G-Tronic automatic transmission with electronically controlled multi-plate clutch.
In the standard version, the GLE Coupé is on a steel spring suspension, the adaptive Airmatic air suspension is available at an additional cost. If you want to go a step further, you can also book E-Active Body Control. A system that works via the 48-volt electrical system, can control spring and damper forces individually for each wheel and is already installed in the normal GLE. The Coupé also shares the latest generation of assistance systems from the adaptive distance cruise control Distronic to the active traffic jam assistant.
The new Mercedes GLE Coupé is available as a 350 d 4Matic from 76,279 euros. The 400 d 4Matic variant is in the price list for at least 81,634 euros.
