D a he is the one again Defender: With an extremely powerful, but also extremely expensive anniversary model, Land Rover revived the off-road icon in 2018. Production of the Defender in Sollihull actually ended in January 2016. Unfortunately too early to celebrate the brand's last year anniversary - 70 years of Land Rover. So the British stepped up again and built a Power Defender that cracks some superlatives in the brand's history.
Defender Works with five-liter V8
The one known from the Range Rover is installed Five-liter V8, but without the compressor used there. As a naturally aspirated engine, the gasoline engine has 405 hp and a torque of 515 Newton meters. Because that would reliably crumble the Defender's standard axle differentials in the shortest possible time, reinforced variants are used. The power of the five-liter engine is managed by an eight-speed automatic, which can be operated with a stylish manual lever.
In order to bring the elemental force of the drive onto the road in a manageable manner, there is a sports suspension with modified springs, stabilizers and special shock absorbers, as well as an improved braking system. The 'Land Rover Defender Works V8 - 70th Edition', so the full name, should accelerate to 60 mp /h (96 km /h) in 5.6 seconds, the top speed is given as 171 km /h. Land Rover also wants to use its experience with the individual components for existing customers, so performance enhancements and comparable conversion kits for chassis and brakes are also to be offered for the TDCi Defender, which was built until 2016.
Individual production to order
The interior of the Land Rover Defender, available in eight colorsWorks is dressed up for the occasion. Windsor leather upholstery can be found on the dashboard and door panels, on the headliner and on the Recaro sports seats. There is also an infotainment system specially developed by Land Rover Classic with a small color screen in the 1-DIN radio. The body also has some special features to offer. The door handles and fuel filler cap are made of aluminum, and Bi-LED headlights provide a radiance.
The 150 limited copies of the Land Rover Defender Works V8 - 70th Edition are produced to order, and both the short Defender 90 and the short version are available the long Defender 110. Orders for this can now also be placed via the German branch of Land Rover Classic. Prices are currently no longer communicated due to the further customization options, most recently 150,000 pounds Stirling were mentioned, currently around 164,000 euros. After the cars are built on existing, already approved and of course fully restored chassis, the approval of the V8 model, which is only certified according to Euro 5, is also possible without any problems. For this reason, it is also possible to manufacture a left-hand drive.
