Dacia Duster Mat Edition: collector's item with status claim

Dacia has sold two million Dusters since it was launched in 2010. The track record is celebrated with a limited special model.

The status symbol for everyone who doesn't need a status symbol - footballer Mehmet Scholl used this slogan to advertise the Dacia Duster as Germany's cheapest SUV. In the meantime, the Duster has sold over two million units and has developed a loyal fan base.

Especially in paint and equipment

The Romanian manufacturer is celebrating the sales anniversary at the beginning of 2023 with a special model - the Duster Mat Edition. Only 225 copies of this will find their way onto the German market. Dacia itself therefore confidently advertises it as a collector's item. In the meantime, you have traveled the path to becoming a status symbol yourself.

As befits such a special Duster, it combines high-quality equipment with an exclusive paint finish and a powerful engine. For the latter, Dacia relies on the TCe 150 turbo petrol engine, which brings 150 hp and 250 Nm from a 1.3-liter four-cylinder. This is linked to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.

When it comes to equipment, the Journey version serves as the basis. Details such as automatic climate control, blind spot warning, reversing camera and a multimedia system including navigation are already on board. For the Mat Edition, Dacia packs the multi-view camera, the front seat heating and the keyless entry and start system Keycard Handsfree. The special model inherits its name from the bodywork finish in matt comet grey. Contrasts are provided by the black 17-inch alloy wheels, exterior mirror housings in gloss black with a subtle orange band, the shark antenna painted in gloss black and the roof rails in grey.

The Dacia Duster Mat Edition will be sold exclusively via online reservation, which will be opened in parallel with the presentation of the model in early March 2023. In addition to the 225 vehicles for the German market, Dacia only offers the collector's item in small numbers in France (400 units) and Romania (70 units).

Dacia charges 26,400 euros for the special model, but includes four years of maintenance and a guarantee (48 months or 80,000 km from first registration). Incidentally, the Duster was launched on the German market in 2010 at prices starting at 11,900 euros.

Conclusion

Since 2010, Dacia has sold over two million units of the SUV that didn't want to be a status symbol. It is celebrated with the special model Mat Edition, which the Romanians classify as a collector's item. A certain status thinking has probably been developed in the meantime.
