Costs and real consumption: Skoda Kodiaq 2.0 TDI 4x4 L&K

The large SUV from Skoda with a 200 hp four-cylinder TDI comes up for a consumption and cost check.

Even before the facelift, the Skoda Kodiaq knew how to impress: Lots of space, comfortable chassis, driving behavior suitable for travel and reasonable driving performance were the credits for the large Czech SUV with all-wheel drive. But what about consumption and costs? We have measured, tested and calculated what the Skoda Kodiaq 2.0 TDI 4x4 in the Laurin & Klement equipment consumes and costs.

Our test consumption

Skoda states a WLTP standard consumption of 6.7 liters for the SUV top model with 200 hp two-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel. In the test, this becomes 7.8 liters, which results in fuel costs of 15.12 euros for the 100-kilometer distance. In commuter operation, it is slightly higher: 7.9 liters of diesel result in fuel costs of 15.32 euros. At 6.1 liters, the Eco consumption is slightly below the WLTP specification; the value of the fuel required for 100 kilometers drops to 11.83 euros. Sporty drivers drive consumption to 9.3 liters and with it the fuel costs to 18.03 euros. These are calculated using the daily updated fuel price on our partner portal mehr-tanken.de (07/01/2022/diesel: 1.939 euros/litre).

Monthly maintenance costs

Year after year, a vehicle tax of 382 euros has to be paid for the Skoda Kodiaq 2.0 TDI 4x4 L&K. According to Allianz Direct, liability insurance for the SUV costs 335 euros for the same period. A partially comprehensive upgrade adds another 145 euros. An additional 492 euros are due for the fully comprehensive policy. The bottom line is that the monthly maintenance costs amount to 343 euros if the Skoda is driven 15,000 kilometers a year. If the mileage doubles to 30,000 kilometers, the Kodiaq costs 622 euros per month. We leave out the loss in value in this calculation.

How to test

The auto motor und sport test consumption consists of three differently weighted consumption runs. So-called “commuter consumption” accounts for 70 percent. This is a journey from home to work, which averages 21 kilometers. A particularly economical, approx. 275-kilometre-long eco-lap is included in the rating with 15 percent. The remaining 15 percent is accounted for by the sports driver lap. The length is roughly the same as the eco lap, but the route includes a larger proportion of motorway and thus higher speeds on average. The basis for calculating the fuel costs is always the price quoted on the "more tanken" portal on the day the article was created.

The monthly maintenance costs include maintenance, wear part costs and vehicle taxes assuming an annual mileage of 15,000 and 30,000 kilometers without loss of value. The calculation is based on the test consumption, a three-year holding period, no-claims class SF12 for liability and fully comprehensive insurance with Allianz Direct, including discounts for garage parkers and the restriction to certain drivers (accident-free/15,000 km per year/resident in the postcode area 70174/not under 21/partner driver older than 25 years).

Conclusion

The Skoda Kodiaq 2.0 TDI 4x4 L&K with 200 hp two-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel costs at least 52,850 euros and consumes an average of 7.8 liters, which means fuel costs of 15.12 euros per 100 kilometers. The monthly maintenance costs are 343 euros with an annual mileage of 15,000 kilometers. If this increases to 30,000 kilometers, the sum increases to 622 euros.
