How much does the four-wheel drive SUV with a 245 hp petrol engine cost in everyday life? This is exactly what we clarify in our comprehensive cost check.
"The tight chassis and the tight body prevent the X4 from ending up higher here (in the comparison test with the Audi Q5 and Porsche Macan). The economical engine and the power transmission are top", judges test editor Heinrich Lingner the SUV coupe from Munich. With a basic price of 66,400 euros, however, the model is not a bargain. Let's take a look at the everyday costs.
Our test consumption
According to the WLTP measurement, the BMW X4 xDrive30i should consume 8.2 liters of Super over the distance of 100 kilometers. In fact, the four-cylinder consumes exactly one liter more in the test average with 9.2 l/100 km. Instead of 16.52 euros, 18.54 euros are currently due at the pump. The calculation for everyday commuter consumption looks almost identical. Driven sparingly, consumption can be reduced to 7.1 l/100 km. The costs then shrink to 14.31 euros. With a sporty driving style, 11.8 liters run through the four combustion chambers, which cost 23.78 euros. The fuel costs are calculated using the daily updated fuel price on our partner portal mehr-tanken.de (04/26/2022 /Super: 2.015 euros/litre).
Monthly maintenance costs
The vehicle tax is 276 euros. According to Allianz Direct , liability insurance costs 458 euros annually. An annual fee of 228 euros is due for the partially comprehensive insurance, the fully comprehensive insurance costs an extra 1,026 euros. The total monthly maintenance costs are 416 euros for vehicle use over 15,000 kilometers per year. If the number of kilometers doubles, 758 euros are due. The depreciation is not included here.
How to test
The auto motor und sport test consumption consists of three differently weighted consumption runs. So-called “commuter consumption” accounts for 70 percent. This is a journey from home to work, which averages 21 kilometers. A particularly economical, approx. 275-kilometre-long eco-lap is included in the rating with 15 percent. The remaining 15 percent is accounted for by the sports driver lap. The length is roughly the same as the eco lap, but the route includes a larger proportion of motorway and thus higher speeds on average. The basis for calculating the fuel costs is always the price quoted on the "more tanken" portal on the day the article was created.
The monthly maintenance costs include maintenance, wear part costs and vehicle taxes assuming an annual mileage of 15,000 and 30,000 kilometers without loss of value. The calculation is based on the test consumption, a three-year holding period, insurance costs with no-claims class SF12 for liability and comprehensive insurance with Allianz including discounts for garage parkers and the restriction to certain drivers (not under 21). At Allianz, SF12 offers a discount rate of 34 percent for liability and 28 percent for comprehensive insurance.
Conclusion
In the auto motor und sport test consumption, the 66,400-euro BMW X4 xDrive30i with M-Sport package ends up with an average value of 9.2 liters Super per 100 kilometers. The fuel costs for this distance are thus 18.54 euros. The monthly maintenance costs are 416 euros (15,000 km annual mileage) or 758 euros (30,000 km annual mileage).
