The Bavarian crossover competes with a 178 hp turbo petrol engine for a consumption and cost check. How expensive is the X2 in everyday life?
"Less chic and gimmicky, but a great talent for cornering, more travel comfort and a harmonious drive - the X2 has more to offer here, just no variable rear seat." Our test editor Michael von Maydell sees the BMW X2 xDrive20i M Sport as clearly ahead of its platform brother, the Mini Countryman Cooper S All4. But are the maintenance costs and consumption values also at a reasonable level?
Our test consumption
In the test, the crossover with all-wheel drive consumed significantly more per 100 kilometers than promised: 8.3 instead of 6.9 liters. This settles the fuel costs for this distance at 14.27 euros. On the Eco lap, consumption drops to 6.3 liters - and with it the equivalent of the petrol required for this to 10.83 euros. At the other end of the spectrum: consumption with a sporty driving style of 10.9 liters and the resulting fuel costs of 18.74 euros. These are calculated using the daily updated fuel price on our partner portal mehr-tanken.de (01/27/2022 /Super: 1.719 euros/litre).
Monthly maintenance costs
The annual vehicle tax for a BMW X2 xDrive20i M Sport is 176 euros. According to Allianz Direct , liability insurance costs 385 euros for the same period. The surcharge for the partially comprehensive protection is 149 euros, while a fully comprehensive upgrade costs 545 euros. This results in monthly maintenance costs of 306 euros if the X2 is driven 15,000 kilometers a year. If the mileage doubles, the value increases to 555 euros. The depreciation comes on top.
How to test
The auto motor und sport test consumption consists of three differently weighted consumption runs. So-called “commuter consumption” accounts for 70 percent. This is a journey from home to work, which averages 21 kilometers. A particularly economical, approx. 275-kilometre-long eco-lap is included in the rating with 15 percent. The remaining 15 percent is accounted for by the sports driver lap. The length is roughly the same as the eco lap, but the route includes a larger proportion of motorway and thus higher speeds on average. The basis for calculating the fuel costs is always the price quoted on the "more tanken" portal on the day the article was created.
The monthly maintenance costs include maintenance, wear part costs and vehicle taxes assuming an annual mileage of 15,000 and 30,000 kilometers without loss of value. The calculation is based on the test consumption, a three-year holding period, no-claims class SF12 for liability and fully comprehensive insurance with Allianz Direct, including discounts for garage parkers and the restriction to certain drivers (accident-free/15,000 km per year/resident in the postcode area 70174/not under 21/partner driver older than 25 years).
Conclusion
The BMW X2 xDrive20i M Sport with 178 hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo petrol engine costs at least 48,250 euros and consumes an average of 8.3 liters, which results in fuel costs of 14.27 euros per 100 kilometers. The monthly maintenance costs are 306 euros for an annual mileage of 15,000 kilometers. If this increases to 30,000 kilometers, the sum increases to 555 euros.
