Costs and real consumption: Audi Q5 50 TDI Quattro S line

The base price of the Audi Q5 50 TDI Quattro S line is 61,100 euros. We show what the car costs in everyday use and how much fuel it consumes.

As an SUV designed for comfort, the Audi Q5 50 TDI Quattro S line skilfully plays off its joker, dignified driving. According to test editor Michael Harnischfeger, it comes up with supple suspension and at the same time absorbs unnecessary rolling movements. However, customers pay for driving comfort with moderate response and a somewhat annoying turbo lag. And the Audi should also get going faster at the traffic light start. So if the customer makes small compromises here, the Q5 50 TDI Quattro S line is a pleasant partner. We show what the all-wheel drive SUV, which costs at least 61,100 euros, costs in everyday life and how much fuel it consumes.

Our test consumption

Under the hood of the Q5 50 TDI Quattro S line is a three-liter, 286-hp V6 diesel engine that, according to the WLTP standard, consumes 8.5 liters per 100 kilometers. In our test, the Audi consumed 8.4 liters, which means fuel costs of 13.18 euros for this route. If you are extra economical on the road, you will get off accordingly cheaper: The Eco consumption value is significantly lower at 6.4 liters - the diesel costs here are 10.04 euros. Sports drivers chase an average of 9.9 liters through the six combustion chambers - that makes 15.54 euros. The fuel costs are calculated using the daily updated fuel price on our partner portal mehr-tanken.de (as of January 11, 2022, diesel: 1.57 euros per liter).

Monthly maintenance costs

The annual vehicle tax for the Audi Q5 50 TDI Quattro S line is 657 euros. According to Allianz Direct , liability insurance costs 434 euros in the same period. A partially comprehensive insurance costs 223 euros per year, fully comprehensive insurance pays 986 euros. If you drive 15,000 kilometers a year, you have to budget for monthly costs of 375 euros. If you double the number of kilometers, the amount increases to 662 euros. Added to this is the loss of value.

How to test

The auto motor und sport test consumption consists of three differently weighted consumption runs. So-called “commuter consumption” accounts for 70 percent. This is a journey from home to work, which averages 21 kilometers. A particularly economical, approx. 275-kilometre-long eco-lap is included in the rating with 15 percent. The remaining 15 percent is accounted for by the sports driver lap. The length is roughly the same as the eco lap, but the route includes a larger proportion of motorway and thus higher speeds on average. The calculation basis for the fuel costs is always the price indication of the portal "more refueling" from the day the article was created.

The monthly maintenance costs include maintenance, wear part costs and vehicle taxes assuming an annual mileage of 15,000 and 30,000 kilometers without loss of value. The calculation is based on the test consumption, a three-year holding period, no-claims class SF12 for liability and fully comprehensive insurance with Allianz Direct, including discounts for garage parkers and the restriction to certain drivers (accident-free/15,000 km per year, resident in the postcode area 70174, not under 21, partner drivers older than 25 years).
