The Toyota RAV4 not only comes with a very impressive amount of space and enough space for luggage, but above all with amazing driving comfort. In everyday speed ranges, the combustion engine basically only plays piano because it prefers only to generate the electricity for the 174 kW electric motors. And he usually does that at low speed. Only when accelerating vigorously (and that's really powerful) does the control electronics allow it to rev up constantly, which still somehow sounds like the clutch is slipping. But these temperament exercises hardly ever occur because this car doesn't encourage you to take advantage of its 306 system horsepower. And what about the fuel, electricity and maintenance costs?

Our test consumption

Toyota specifies a WLTP consumption of 1.0 liter Super and 16.6 kWh per 100 kilometers for the RAV4 PHEV . He moves away from this value in everyday life. We have determined an average consumption of 1.5 liters and 12.4 kWh, which causes costs of 7.40 euros per 100 kilometers. The Toyota consumed 5.9 liters on the eco lap, while consuming 6.8 liters on the commuter route. If the Toyota was moved in a sporty manner, consumption rose to 9.9 liters. The average consumption hybrid is 7.1 liters. On the purely electric lap, the power consumption was 15.6 kWh. The fuel costs are calculated using the daily updated fuel price on our partner portal tank up more (09/27/2022 / Great: 1.85 euros/liter ). The electricity costs are calculated using the average household electricity price according to the BDEW Bundesverband der Energie- und Wasserwirtschaft e.V. (Average electricity price for a household with an annual consumption of 3,500 kWh: 0.3730 euros/kWh . The electricity price at a public charging station is usually higher.

Monthly maintenance costs

How to test

The auto motor und sport test consumption for plug-in hybrids is made up of three differently weighted consumption drives driven in hybrid mode. So-called “commuter consumption” accounts for 70 percent. This is a journey from home to work, which averages 21 kilometers (starting with an empty battery). This shows the maximum range in kilometers with a fully charged battery before the combustion engine starts. The consumption is calculated from the measured energy consumption including charging losses. The charging time for a full battery charge and the amount of energy in the battery, including charging losses, are also measured. The monthly maintenance costs include maintenance, wear part costs and vehicle taxes assuming an annual mileage of 15,000 and 30,000 kilometers without loss of value. The basis for the calculation is the test consumption, a three-year holding period, no-claims class SF12 for liability and fully comprehensive insurance with Allianz including discounts for garage parkers and the restriction to certain drivers (not under 21). SF12 means a discount rate of 34 percent for liability and 28 percent for fully comprehensive insurance at Allianz.,
