Unique Pixar: Porsche 911 Sally Special (992)

Porsche has launched a road-legal 911 model based on the Pixar character Sally Carrera: the Sally Special. The model was auctioned for a good cause. It was sold at $3.6 million.

In 2006, i.e. 15 years ago, the Pixar cartoon "Cars" started in the cinemas - and even today the automotive characters like "Lightning McQueen", "Hook" or "Doc" are very popular . A great honor was bestowed on one model: Sally Carrera was presented as a real car by Porsche – on the occasion of her 20th birthday. Because Sally is a blue Porsche 911 Carrera from 2002.,

Unique as a brand new 911 at a record price

"We will, for the first time ever, build a brand new road-legal Porsche 911 that was inspired by our special film character: Sally Carrera. The vehicle is unique and was auctioned for a good cause. At the RM Sotheby's Monterey auction on August 20, 2022, the hammer for the one-off fell for a bid of 3.6 million dollars, which came from an unknown telephone bidder "However, only American citizens were allowed to bid. According to RM Sotheby's, a new Porsche car has never been sold at auction for such a high price. The entire proceeds from the auction of the car will benefit two organizations: the USA for UNHCR, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, with the remainder going to Girls Inc. This US charity supports young women pursuing math, computer science, science and technology majors," said Jay Ward, Creative Director of Franchise at Pixar Animation Studios.

A few months ago, the team around Jay Ward and Style Porsche came together in Weissach and Porsche Exclusive - an abstract "what if" idea has now become a concrete project in the face of the Ukraine war.

Hand-painted and with a rear tattoo

So what makes the car so unique? Of course there are numerous references to the film template in and on the vehicle. For example the "Tribal Tattoo" on the rear, which is hidden under the retractable spoiler on the Sally Special. There are also plaques on the B-pillar and on the dashboard. The knob on the steering wheel, which is responsible for selecting the driving modes, bears the lettering "Kachow!" – an exclamation from Pixar Cars main character Lightning McQueen. The hand-applied paint finish in Sally Blue Metallic, which is reserved for this vehicle, comes from Porsche Exclusive. The same applies to the rim design in the turbo look, which the colleagues from Style Porsche in Weissach designed specifically to decorate the one-off. The owner also gets the matching watch, a chronograph from Porsche Design.,

The GTS version of the 992 series serves as the basis for the 911 Sally Special. Accordingly, the supercharged three-liter six-cylinder boxer in the rear has 480 hp and the Sport The Chrono package is standard, as is the sports exhaust system.

Conclusion

For its 20th birthday, Porsche is releasing the small blue 911 "Sally Carrera" from the "Cars" films as a real street-legal model. However, only a film or Porsche fan can look forward to the unique specimen. "Sally Special" was auctioned off for two worthy causes at Monterey Car Week. The final bid was $3.6 million – a record price for a new Porsche car at an auction.
