At the L.A. Auto Show in November 2021, Porsche not only presented a new motorization of the Taycan with the GTS, but also unveiled a new body shape: the Sport Turismo. The sports car manufacturer is now announcing additional engines for this variant.
"Gran Turismo Sport" GTS for short, including very special models from Zuffenhausen since 1963, starting with the 904 Carrera GTS. The Taycan is now the first electric car to bear this legendary abbreviation, placing it somewhere between the Taycan 4S and the Taycan Turbo in terms of performance.
Drive
In the Taycan GTS, Porsche is installing a 93.4 kWh battery, with which the sedan can achieve an electric range of up to 504 kilometers for the first time. The Sport Turismo gets a little less far (see table).
The two permanently excited synchronous machines deliver 517 hp on both axles, with the overboost providing 598 hp when the launch control is activated. The maximum torque is 850 Nm. The GTS sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and reaches a maximum of 250 km/h.
Equipment
Porsche has specially tuned the adaptive air suspension "Porsche Active Suspension Management" (PASM) for the Taycan GTS and designed it for more lateral dynamics. The optional rear-wheel steering also has a sportier design. The modified Porsche Electric Sport Sound with a robust sound provides a suitable sound.
A panorama roof with Sunshine Control is available as special equipment for the Taycan GTS – an electrically switchable film made of liquid crystals is installed here, which can change from transparent to matt. This is intended to reduce glare, but at the same time allow enough light into the interior. All nine roof segments can be switched individually. In addition, there are predefined patterns ("Semi" and "Bold") with narrow and wide roof segments.
Exterior
Visually, the GTS comes with black or dark body elements, for example on the front apron, on the side window strips, on the exterior mirror brackets or on the diffuser. With the Sport Turismo, the Porsche designers dispense with the off-road design elements of the Cross Turismo. Otherwise, the officially third body version of the series retains the "station wagon" silhouette, but is marginally lower at 1,409 mm to 1,381 mm.
Other variants
Other engines will follow for the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo. In contrast to the Cross Turismo, like the "normal" Taycan , there will be a basic model with pure rear-wheel drive and 240 kW (326 hp) of power. With the optional Performance Battery Plus, 280 kW (380 hp) and a WLTP range of 417 to 491 km are possible. Porsche specifies 5.4 seconds for the zero hundred value, and the top speed is 230 km/h.
The Taycan 4S Sport Turismo will also be optionally available with the Performance Battery Plus with an output of 360 kW (490 PS) (standard: 320 kW (435 PS)). The WLTP range here is 417 to 498 km. This makes the 4S the version with the greatest range among the Sport Turismo models. Zero hundred falls in a smooth four seconds, the top speed is 250 km/h.
Like the GTS, the Turbo model comes with the large 93.4 kWh battery ex works. The energy should be sufficient for a range of up to 491 km. Porsche puts the driving performance at 3.2 seconds for the standard sprint and 260 km/h for the top speed.
The top model Turbo S Sport Turismo has an output of 460 kW (625 hp) and completes the sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, like the turbo it can also go up to 260 km/h and running 10 km/h faster than the GTS model.
Price
The Taycan GTS and the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo will start at the end of February 2022 at prices from 131,834 and 132,786 euros respectively. The other versions will follow three weeks later, in the middle of March. The basic model starts at 86,495 euros, the 4 S Sport Turismo costs from 107,439 euros and the turbo costs at least 153,968 euros. The price tag on the Turbo S top model calls for 187,288 euros.
Conclusion
Porsche brings another engine for the Taycan with the abbreviation GTS. The Taycan GTS is positioned between 4S and turbo, delivers up to 598 hp via boost and has a range of up to 504 kilometers in the sedan version. Together with the GTS, the Zuffenhausen-based company is showing the Sport Turismo GTS, the official third body shape of the electric series - in comparison to the Cross Turismo, the Sport Turismo does without the off-road planking. After the introduction of the GTS version, the Sport Turismo is also available as a base model, 4S, Turbo and Turbo S.
