M ercedes-AMG combines the technology of the GT R with the fabric roof of the roadster to create a limited-edition top model: there will be exactly 750 of these super sports cars. With 585 hp, coilover suspension and limited-slip differential, the GT R is the sportiest version of the roadster. Like the Coupé, the GT R Roadster has a switch for six drive programs. There is also a switch for the convertible top: the three-layer hood with acoustic mat has a heated glass rear window and a frame made of aluminum, magnesium and steel.
Active aerodynamics with invisible spoiler
The aerodynamics exist for the Part of active components. The most visible element is the rear wing, the inclination of which is adjustable in the middle. In addition to vertical slats, which open or close depending on the driving situation, the front apron also has two large air inlets with cross fins instead of grilles. They direct air to the coolers. Additional air curtains direct the air towards the wheel arch. There, in turn, there are additional cooling air slots in the wheel arch liners. Depending on the driving program and speed, an active aerodynamic profile is deployed in the underbody in front of the engine, which is intended to reduce lift on the front axle by 40 kilograms at 250 km /h. This should enable the GT R to turn more precisely and be more stable on the road. If the aerodynamic profile is extended, the exhaust air opening of the engine cooler also opens and directs air to the rear diffuser, stabilizes the rear axle and cools the technology housed there. The AMG GT has as a transaxle -Car's gearbox on the rear axle.
With four-liter V8 from zero to 100 km /h in 3.6 seconds
As the GT R, the roadster has the 585 hp version of the Four-liter V8 biturbo. Other turbochargers, a sharper characteristic in the engine management and 1.35 instead of 1.2 bar boost pressure increase the performance. There are also changes to the exhaust ports and compression. A torque of 700 Newton meters is available between 2,100 and 5,500 rpm. In combination with the seven-speed dual clutch transmission and the limited-slip differential on the rear axle, the result is a zero-to-one hundred value of 3.6 seconds.
Six drive programs, four dynamic settings
With six The driver can adapt the system to driving programs - smoothness, comfort, sport, sport plus, race and individual as well as a manual transmission mode. With AMG Dynamics, the driver can also choose between four characteristics of ESP, steering and power distribution: from Basic to one designed for stabilityCharacteristic curve in the “Comfort” and “Smoothness” driving programs via “Advanced” with more freedom for winding country roads (“Sport” driving program), the options range up to “Pro” for dynamic driving maneuvers. Finally, “Master” is designed for racetracks and coupled with the “Race” driving program. The drive programs can be selected using a switch in the center console and a dynamic switch on the steering wheel. The steering wheel switch shows the selected setting on an integrated screen. The slip on the rear wheels is regulated by the nine-stage AMG Traction Control. This regulates the slip on the driven rear wheels independently of the ESP and works with foresight. The traction control also includes the functioning of the electronically controlled limited slip differential.
Sporty: adjustable coilover kit, racing tires
The driver can set the adaptive dampers of the coilover kit in the three stages “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport Plus”. The chassis itself can be adjusted in the workshop, it is rigidly connected to the body with uniball joints. The track is widened at the front and rear. Wheels measuring 10x19 inches are used at the front and 12x20 inches at the rear. The road-legal racing tires of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 type are 275/35 ZR 19 at the front and 325/30 ZR 20 at the rear. There are 390 millimeter brake discs in the wheels on the front axle, and the brake discs on the rear axle are 360 millimeters in diameter. A ceramic brake system is available for a surcharge, the discs then have a diameter of 402 millimeters at the front and 360 millimeters at the rear. The ceramic brake system is 15 kilograms lighter and should last longer. The standard rear axle steering turns the rear wheels up to 100 km /h in the opposite direction to the front wheels. This works like a shortened wheelbase and lets the car turn more spontaneously. At higher speeds, the rear wheels steer in the same direction - this stabilizes the driving behavior and helps to maintain control during quick evasive maneuvers.
Comfort: neck heating, seat ventilation
The AMG GT R Roadster has bucket seats covered with black nappa leather as standard. Brown, beige or light gray leather as well as Airscarf head space heating and seat air conditioning are available for an extra charge. The 12.3-inch diagonal instrument display can be set to one of three display styles. The driver can control the driving programs via TFT display buttons in the center console and in the steering wheel. The new AMG performance steering wheel is flattened at the bottom and covered with non-slip synthetic fiber (Dinamica). In the steering wheel spokes are the touch control buttons familiar from the E-Class, which can be used to navigate through the instrument cluster and multimedia display with swiping movements.
