Longtail models have at M cLaren tradition. Longtail history began in 1997 with the McLaren F1 GTR Longtail. In 2015, the McLaren 675LT Coupé followed, the first long-tail model of the modern era, followed by a corresponding Spider. Both models were limited to 500 units and sold out immediately. The fourth model to be nicknamed Longtail is the McLaren 600LT Coupé, which was presented at the Festival of Speed in Goodwood in July 2018.

McLaren 600LT Spider achieves 324 km /h

Now the fifth model in the longtail family has been unveiled. The McLaren 600LT takes over the complete technology and equipment of the corresponding coupé. With its three-part retractable hardtop, the open two-seater adds 50 kilograms compared to its closed brother, but an empty weight of 1,297 kilograms is an announcement in this class. The extra weight comes exclusively from the soft top, the carbon chassis did not have any additional stiffeners.

The open two-seater is fired by the well-known 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8, which is available here on 600 PS and 620 Nm of torque brings and on a seven-speed dual clutch transmission hangs. It goes from zero to 100 km /h in 2.9 seconds - a tie with the coupé. Up to 200 km /h, the Spider can be 0.2 seconds longer with 8.4 seconds. The maximum speed specified for the closed McLaren 600LT Spider is 324 km /h. With the top down, 315 km /h should still be there. McLaren only allows the top to be operated up to a maximum of 40 km /h. When the top is open, an electrically retractable rear window between the seats is supposed to soften the storm in the cockpit. On the other hand, it can also be used to regulate the sound that enters the cockpit from the exhaust system that opens upwards. When the convertible top is closed, the then empty convertible top compartment behind the seats offers additional storage space of 52 liters.

Like its coupé brother, the McLaren 600LT Spider is limited in edition - it should only remain in production for twelve months. The basic price is 250,000 euros including taxes.
