The modern version of the English dandy

Remarkably low fuel consumption

Realignment of the inner values: The sportiness should be improved, but without neglecting the refinement, i.e. the sophistication. This can best be checked on the top model, the Jaguar XKR. Its completely redesigned five-liter V8 now delivers 510 instead of 416 hp for the 4.2-liter and lifts 625 instead of the previous 560 Nm of torque. It is blown by an Eaton compressor according to the old tradition. Direct injection, on the other hand, is modern. Pressures of up to 150 bar keep the average CO2 emissions below 300 grams per kilometer, which corresponds to an average consumption of 12.3 liters of Super Plus - remarkably little in the 500 hp league.

Feed without compressor howling

The propulsion does not suffer from the relative economy: the V8 pushes large-volume from the cellar, the power unfolds in an intimidating manner steady climb up to about 7,000 rpm. An expert should manage the standard sprint to 100 km /h in 4.8 seconds - so much for thrilling sportiness. And the whole thing happens differently than before, completely without the compressor howling.

So much for sophistication. The Roots blower was sent to train its voices to train its howling, while the eight-cylinder indulges in the deep bass: a kind of ear tube conducts itSuction rumble under the dashboard. It mingles with the exhaust hissing to create a sporty, potent sound that - refinement! - never get intrusive. The ZFutomatic also remains in the background. In level D, it always changes gears in the high-torque range.

New adaptive Bilstein dampers

At level S it becomes more active without spreading nervousness. Sports drivers can intervene in the action using the shift paddle, which is particularly useful when shifting down before turning. New are the adaptive Bilstein dampers, which work with greater variability and prevent annoyance on long journeys as well as body staggering in the bends. If you let yourself be infected by the sportiness, you can switch the stability control to the trac mode, which allows small rear-ends - or you deactivate it completely on a closed route. Even that doesn't worry the 2 + 2-seater - it remains stable when drifting like few in its class. The electronically controlled rear axle differential with locking effect up to the rigid through drive helps.

Lush standard equipment

Jaguar calculates the significant increase in performance and motivation with a premium to the predecessor of the Jaguar XKR of around 4,500 euros. From April 26th there will not only be sporty extras such as the adaptive chassis, the limited-slip differential, the large braking system and the 19-inch rims for 103,900 euros. The rest of the standard equipment is extremely sophisticated with bi-xenon headlights, automatic air conditioning, cornering lights, parking aid, seat heating, root wood, electrically adjustable sports seats, Bowers and Wilkins stereo, cruise control (with distance control for an extra charge) and ZF automatic.

Not to forget the good manners: the red pulsing start button, full of anticipation, as well as the selector wheel of the automatic gearbox that zigzagly moves out at the start.
