Irmscher 7 Selectra and Tesla Roadster: self-test electric sports cars

S A tourist falls from his Dacia, drunk asleep Logan MCV, in which he stayed at the foot of the Wendelstein. Did the two spectacular sports cars that had just rolled up tear him out of his Luis Trenker dreams with loud engine roars? Probably not, because the Irmscher 7 Selectra and Tesla Roadster Sport have mildly chirping electric drives.

Like hikers, they still aim high today - inventory. Weather: dry. Temperatures: at refrigerator level. Traffic: none. Vehicles: two roadsters each with little space, little roof, little driving comfort, but high agility, high performance and high value.

Irmscher 7 Selectra without doors

The Irmscher 7 Selectra is still to come two additional aspects: little body and high exclusivity. Since the unique piece is conceptually so far back into the past that it hits the Lotus Seven, the front wheels are free and let their artfully crafted suspensions fillet the airstream. In addition, there are no doors in the classic sense, the limp plastic replacement is better left at home - which makes the entry procedure much easier. Nevertheless, it takes a bit of effort until the 1.92-meter driver is threaded and stowed appropriately.

Now, according to the manufacturer, the Irmscher 7 Selectra weighs just 900 kilograms and weighs 95 more, which is hopefully the 175 kilowatt electric motor only a little bothers. He is supplied with food from the 20 kilowatt hour lithium iron phosphate battery, allegedly around 360 kilometers long. Certainly not today, but that doesn't matter. Two steps make it ready to start, there is no warm-up phase, after all, batteries work best as long as they are cool.

Irmscher 7 Selectra with 800 Nm torque

However, this does not yet apply to tires , which is why the first, shady turns are not yet taken volley. On the straight, 800 Newton meters of instantly available torque pulls the skin of the face a bit towards the back of the head, realizing an acceleration as powerful as the mountain panorama emerging in front of the flat windshield - which also takes on the role of infotainment. On board the Irmscher 7 Selectra, only five round instruments provide information, and the only relevant rotary control is the tiny steering wheel.

Tesla Roadster, in comparison, a lotcomfortable

Instead of a combustion engine, the Irmscher 7 Selectra is driven by the airflow, enriched by the soundtrack of nature, which usually drowns out snorkeling suction and thundering exhaust. That is why there is no other music playing in the Tesla Roadster, although the more generously designed body that at least complies with the principles of aerodynamics has significantly less storms. In general, the Tesla Roadster Sport behaves to the Irmscher 7 Selectra like a student dorm room to a new four-room apartment in the best inner city location. Well, better a three-room apartment, because the space for the driver and front passenger is not really generous. And that comfort is ever associated with a vehicle based on the Lotus Elise - who would have thought?

But in comparison with the radical Irmscher 7 Selectra, this is true, without the Tesla accelerating and being significantly less harmless would give in more sedate. This is ensured by the 215 kW electric motor, which is fed by a 53 kWh battery, and the lightweight chassis, which is based on an adjustable sports suspension. The tires suck themselves into the asphalt with their smacking lips, thus enabling adhesive cream-like traction with the rear-heavy weight distribution. When accelerating out of tight corners, the sensitive electronics also help so that the 400 Nm maximum torque does not affect the direction of travel if it falls uncontrollably over the rear wheels.

Only curves, no shifting

Still the first control instance: the driver. As in the Irmscher 7 Selectra, he does not have to concentrate on gear changes, but can instead practice braking and turning. Alternative: Put carbon hard top on and air conditioning on and pretend the Tesla Roadster Sport is a completely normal - expensive - car. Also works, but it's less fun and draws even more electricity.

In any case, the range is significantly reduced after half a day of energy-intensive trips in Sudelfeld in Upper Bavaria, less in the Tesla Roadster, more in the Irmscher 7 Selectra. So it is not the drive itself, but the energy storage that acts as a brake on fun, because both sports cars would have to be plugged in for at least three and a half hours to recharge - with an optimal infrastructure. On the other hand, water and sausages are enough for hikers on the alpine pasture.
