E xplosive performance, animated handling, casual comfort and discreet luxury - the specifications formulated by Jaguar for the XKR-S Coupé should also apply one-to-one to the new convertible version recently presented in Los Angeles. And not only that: On the engine and chassis side, on a par with the coupé variant and - according to chief engineer Mike Cross 'blessed with the same torsional rigidity as the coupé variant', the convertible, which is also 550 hp and easily 300 km /h, also opens up completely new perspectives - at least when it comes to fresh air pleasure.

Great V8 sound in the Jaguar XKR-S

The V8 supercharged sound, which is already beautiful in the Jaguar XKR-S Coupé, is naturally even more striking in the open two-seater. A first test lap as part of the final factory inspection on the Nordschleife revealed exactly the same systems in terms of driving dynamics as in the coupé: brutal pressure, good agility, pleasant driving comfort and stylish ambience - exactly in accordance with the specifications described above.

The similarity with the Coupé is also striking in terms of driving dynamics. Dispensing with a differential lock results in a relatively broad limit range, but it does mean that in an emergency, a not insignificant portion of the performance literally goes up in smoke.

Luxury convertible is no racer

In this way, neither the Jaguar XKR-S Coupé nor the new convertible variant is the real ring racer that Jaguar would like to sell its sporty spearheads. But that does not change the fact that the Jaguar XKR-S maintains an extremely confident, visually appealing appearance.

In the midst of the stylish, ergonomically fitting and technically flawlessly crafted cockpit and in the direct area of influence of the five-liter compressor motor coupled to a six-speed automatic, the feel-good factor tends towards the maximum. By the way: the roof is opened in 18 seconds - electrically of course - which you can ask for an entry price of 138,100 euros.
