Cost and real consumption: Alpine A110 S

Even with a sports car, the consumption and cost balance is important in view of the high fuel prices. How does the Alpine A110 S perform?

"You haven't had enough passion so far? It's available here. Bought dearly, of course. But at a level that is second to none. Alpine and curves, that's the dream couple." Test editor Marcus Peters has nothing but praise for the driving dynamics of the Alpine A110 S. But what is the consumption and cost balance of the French sports coupé? That is exactly what we are going to examine here.

Our test consumption

Alpine states a WLTP standard consumption of 7.0 liters for the A110 S. In the test, this becomes 8.1 liters, which results in fuel costs of 15.71 euros for the 100-kilometer distance. At 6.2 liters, the Eco consumption is well below the factory specification; the equivalent value of the Super Plus required for 100 kilometers drops to 12.02 euros. Sporty drivers drive consumption to 10.4 liters and with it the fuel costs to 20.17 euros. These are calculated using the daily updated fuel price on our partner portal tank up more (07/11/2022 /Super Plus: 1.939 euros/litre).

Monthly maintenance costs

Annual road tax of 181 euros has to be paid for the Alpine A110 S. According to Allianz Direct, liability insurance costs 380 euros for the same period. A partially comprehensive upgrade costs a further 154 euros. An additional 1,502 euros are due for the fully comprehensive policy. All in all, the monthly maintenance costs amount to 385 euros if the Alpine is driven 15,000 kilometers a year. If the mileage doubles, the A110 S costs 713 euros per month. We do not take into account the loss of value in this calculation.

How to test

The auto motor und sport test consumption consists of three differently weighted consumption runs. So-called “commuter consumption” accounts for 70 percent. This is a journey from home to work, which averages 21 kilometers. A particularly economical, approx. 275-kilometre-long eco-lap is included in the rating with 15 percent. The remaining 15 percent is accounted for by the sports driver lap. The length is roughly the same as the eco lap, but the route includes a larger proportion of motorway and thus higher speeds on average. The basis for calculating the fuel costs is always the price quoted by the "tank up more" portal on the day the article was created.

The monthly maintenance costs include maintenance, wear part costs and vehicle taxes assuming an annual mileage of 15,000 and 30,000 kilometers without loss of value. The calculation is based on the test consumption, a three-year holding period, no-claims class SF12 for liability and fully comprehensive insurance with Allianz Direct, including discounts for garage parkers and the restriction to certain drivers (accident-free/15,000 km per year/resident in the postcode area 70174/not under 21/partner driver older than 25 years).

Conclusion

The Alpine A110 S with 300 hp 1.8-liter four-cylinder turbo petrol engine costs at least 70,850 euros and consumes an average of 8.1 liters, which means fuel costs of 15.71 euros per 100 kilometers. The monthly maintenance costs are 385 euros for an annual mileage of 15,000 kilometers. If this increases to 30,000 kilometers, the sum increases to 713 euros.
