Tubular space frame from the 3D printer, 850 hp with a weight of just 1,300 kilograms - the Angelelli D2 Granturismo impresses with its key data.
With Angelelli Automobili, a new sports car manufacturer is entering the stage. Founded and based in Rome in 2019, the team around Davide Angelelli, like many other sports car start-ups, wants to roll up the sports car world.
Skeleton from the 3D printer
The youngest model of the Romans is the D2 Granturismo, of which there are only virtual representations so far. Formally, with its long bonnet, it is reminiscent of a mixture of Maserati GranTurismo and Ferrari 812. The two-door car is 4.60 meters long and has a wheelbase of 2,710 millimeters. The height is only 1.21 meters and the width is 1.96 meters.
The weight announcement of 1,300 kilograms sounds almost sensational. This is made possible by a lattice tube chassis whose organic structures are to be created using 3D printing from an aluminum-carbon mix or titanium, depending on the model variant. The lightweight body, for which there are no material specifications, integrates 24 moving elements that are intended to optimize the aerodynamics depending on the driving situation. Eight of these can also act as air brakes to help reduce speed. Of course, there is also an all-round monitoring assistance package with autonomous driving functions based on lidar sensors.
V8 as a power source
The power of the drive is given as 600 to 850 hp. This should enable sprint times of 2.5 to 2.8 seconds and a top speed of up to 350 km/h. The basic power comes from a 5.7 liter V8 combustion engine with biturbo charging. The second power level relies on an electrified hybrid variant of the eight-cylinder.
Of course, so much high-tech has its price. No D2 Granturismo should be available for less than 460,000 euros. The hybrid version starts at 580,000 euros. A street, a sport and a special version are to come. When, however, leaves the carmaker open.
Conclusion
Angelelli Automobili from Rome is another sports car start-up that is making big announcements and a sports car that has only existed virtually so far. What is promised sounds interesting, what will actually come remains to be seen.
