A good 500 hp the Audi R8 LMS successfully used in motorsport according to the FIA GT3 regulations. In the production model of the R8 with a 5.2 liter naturally aspirated V10 engine, 525 hp is available, which is transferred to all four wheels. On this basis, Abt builds the special model R8 GT R, limited to 25 vehicles, in which the experiences from motorsport were transferred.

More power and less weight

The tuner increases the power of the ten-cylinder by 95 hp to a massive 620 hp. The sports car should sprint to 100 km /h in 3.2 seconds and break the 200 km /h mark after 9.9 seconds. The end of the acceleration orgy is only reached at 325 km /h.

In order to be safe on the road at this speed, extensive modifications to the serial athlete are necessary. A height-adjustable sports suspension and adjustable dampers are just as standard in the GT R as a ceramic brake system with modified brake pads. In addition, the engineers and designers at Abt have subjected the R8 to a consistent diet. Thanks to its lightweight construction and optimal weight distribution, the sports car is over 100 kilograms lighter than its series counterpart and looks even more dynamic. For this, not only the newly designed bonnet, front and rear apron, the adjustable rear wing or the tailgate were made of carbon, but even the spoiler lip at the rear, the exterior mirrors and the door panels were replaced with carbon fiber elements. The Makrolon side windows were adopted directly from racing. The modifications are rounded off by a weight-optimized exhaust system and particularly light 19-inch rims.

V on the road to the racetrack

'The R8 GT R is an uncompromising racing car for the road, it offers maximum performance', states Christian Abt. That is why there are also racing elements in the interior, such as racing seats, a four-point belt system, stainless steel roll bar with belt attachment, hand-held fire extinguishers and a carbon steering wheel. As accessories, Abt offers driver overalls, helmets, racing and gloves as well as an onboard video system and an expandable data module. Nothing stands in the way of visiting the racetrack.
