I m Basically, the new VinFast Fadil is nothing more than a Vietnamese taste trimmed Opel Karl in the Rocks version. In the course of the adaptation, the little Opel was given a face drawn by Pininfarina that corresponds to that of its corporate brothers. Otherwise, Karl remains entirely Karl. VinFast secured the use of the Opel Karl Rocks directly from GM even before PSA took over Opel.
Fadil with 1.4-liter gasoline engine
The VinFast Fadil is also powered a 1.4 liter gasoline engine, which is also installed in various GM models in South America. The naturally aspirated engine has an output of 98 hp and a maximum torque of 127 Nm. The four-cylinder is coupled to a CVT transmission.
The standard equipment of the VinFast Fadil includes two airbags, ABS, air conditioning and parking aid. In a higher equipment variant, there are four more airbags, ESP, automatic climate control, an infotainment system and a reversing camera. The Fadil will go on sale in Vietnam at the beginning of 2019. The base price is the equivalent of around 16,000 euros.
VinFast has bought a plant in Hanoi from GM to manufacture the Fadil. As in the past, the kits delivered from South Korea are to be assembled there. The Opel Karl is also made in South Korea. For the European market, however, Opel announced the end of production of the Karl for the end of 2019 in October.
