Smart Fortwo recall: roof could fall off

Smart is recalling some Fortwo built in 2020. Less than 200 vehicles are affected in Germany.

Under the reference numbers 010963 and 010969, two recall campaigns are currently being monitored by the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), which affect the small car Smart Fortwo from the year 2020. Both are based on faulty bonding. The first reference number lists 175 affected vehicles worldwide and 123 in Germany in which faulty bonding of the windscreen can prevent the front passenger airbag from being deployed in the event of an accident. The owners concerned will be contacted in writing by the manufacturer and invited to the workshop. There the cars get a new windscreen. No cases of damage have occurred in this connection to date.

The roof can fall off

Another recall is being made under number 010969 due to faulty adhesion, which, however, only affects 20 smart fortwos worldwide and only eight in Germany. In this case, there is a risk that the roof could detach and thus end up in the traffic area while driving. Such an incident has not yet been recorded. Here, too, the customers are invited to the workshop, where the bonding on the roof is then renewed.

The manufacturer codes of the recall campaigns are 6790003 and 6590005. If you have any questions, you can reach the hotline of the Federal Motor Transport Authority on the free hotline number 0800 - 12 777 777.,

Conclusion

Faulty adhesives result in two recall campaigns, both of which affect the Smart Fortwo (year of construction 2020). In eight vehicles in Germany there is a risk that the roof will come off, in 123 cars faulty bonding of the windscreen may prevent the passenger airbag from being deployed correctly in the event of an accident.
