Smart EQ at IAA 2019

While Smart from a new generation speaks, if you look closely, it is a facelift of the models. Nothing changes in the basic technical data. The power of the electric machine remains at 60 kW, and there are no changes to the traction battery with 17.6 kWh compared to the previous models. Accordingly, the maximum range of between 140 and 159 kilometers according to NEDC, depending on the model.

Fortwo and Forfour are getting different front aprons in body color

There is a complete redesign for the Front, which consequently says goodbye to the previous 'radiator' grill and now gives way to a lower panel with a (different) perforated pattern in both the Fortwo and the Forfour. Another new feature is the omission of the separate indicators, which are integrated in the also redesigned main headlights. LED headlights are on the option list. The front aprons are now kept in the same color as the car. All variants also receive uniform, redesigned taillights with eye-catching, cross-shaped graphics.

Especially the front with a new look

Smart did not provide any pictures of the interior until the time of publication, but it should be revised and offer additional storage and have arevised infotainment equipment, which allows an improved integration of smartphones. The “Connect” media system has a larger screen with an eight-inch diagonal and is intended to mirror Android and Apple phones via the “UX concept”, but foregoing its own computing power and thus becoming more cost-effective='v-A_-article__inline-container'>

The associated app has been revised and can now also be run on the Apple Watch, for example to start the air conditioning

This includes the new Smart EQ Control app, which, as with other electric cars, offers additional functions such as vehicle tracking or charge control via smartphone. Preconditioning of the Smart EQ, which is still attached to the charging cable, is also possible with the app. The app also has the option of integrating the Apple Watch so that it can control individual vehicle functions.

For the launch of the facelift versions of the Smart EQ, the provider is also revising the ordering system. Instead of many individual options, packages are now offered for the four equipment lines. There are also other color combinations that also influence the color of the interior. The Smart EQ can optionally be equipped with a 22 kW on-board charger for three-phase charging on the AC network.

Prices and sales launch have not yet been announced.
