Mini Cooper SE: electric convertible for 60,000 euros

In April, Mini will launch the Cooper SE Cabrio. The small series of open electric cars with BMW i3 technology is limited and extremely expensive.

After a one-off in the summer of 2022 based on a Mini Cooper Cabrio with the drive technology of the Electric Mini and speculation about a production version, there is now official information about the Mini Cabrio with electric drive. The currently only electric full convertible is being built, and in a small series - before Mini introduces the next generation of the small car. However, the price for the small electric convertible is fierce.

Electric convertible costs 60,000 euros

From April, Mini customers can buy one of 999 Cooper SE convertibles for 60,000 euros. The small series of the open electric car is available in two colors and has special equipment.

A lettering 1/999 indicates the limited number of pieces. The 17-inch alloy wheels of the special series correspond to those of the Cooper SE with their Spoke-2-Tone design, but are cast from recycled aluminum. Various E-Logos on the car indicate the electric drive. The start-stop toggle and various decorative seams are yellow, which is also known from the closed electric mini.

The heated sports seats with adjustable thigh supports are covered with black leather. The nappa leather steering wheel can be heated. The standard equipment includes distance cruise control, head-up display and various assistants such as collision warning, automatic high beam and traffic sign recognition.

Drive and battery from the BMW i3S

Drive and battery correspond to the closed electric mini. The 184 hp electric motor is known from the BMW i3S . Mini specifies the WLTP range as 201 kilometers. According to the WLTP factory specification, the closed Cooper SE manages 228 kilometers, i.e. it gets 27 kilometers more from the 32.6 kWh battery. The power consumption is slightly higher at 17.2 to 15.7 kWh per 100 km. The time for the sprint from zero to 100 km/h is identical: Mini states 7.3 seconds.

The roof with a gray Union Jack pattern also partially opens as a large sunroof, as on the combustion engine convertibles. The open Mini is 3.86 meters long and 1.73 meters wide. The wheelbase is almost 2.50 meters.

Conclusion

Mini brings the electric Cooper SE convertible in small series. However, at a steep price: one of the open Stromer costs 60,000 euros. That's around 15,000 euros more than is due for a closed Cooper SE with full equipment - and it's small, but not exactly cheap.
