E in the new central front airbag is the most important innovation in the safety systems for the new Honda Jazz. Like the Toyota Yaris, the Jazz also has an airbag that slips between the heads of the front occupants in the event of an accident. The airbag is housed in the backrest of the driver's seat. Belt tensioners and a particularly high center armrest support the effectiveness of the central airbag. According to internal investigations, these measures reduce the severity of head injuries in an accident by up to 85 percent on the side facing the collision and by up to 98 percent on the side facing away.
Knee airbag and compatible body structure
The total of ten airbags also includes a knee airbag, which is intended to provide additional protection for the driver's head and chest in the event of an accident . Originally, knee airbags were used especially in the USA to still protect drivers who had not buckled up. There are new head airbags to protect the rear passengers.
According to the manufacturer, the entire body structure of the Jazz is designed to transmit as little energy as possible to the passenger cell in the event of an accident. In addition, the structure should also protect other vehicles involved in the accident by passing on less energy to them.
Active safety systems improved
The Jazz's collision warning system now also detects unlit pedestrians at night and cyclists suddenly crossing the lane. If the Jazz turns into the lane of an oncoming vehicle, emergency braking takes place. The camera required for this now works with a larger detection angle. It is also able to recognize traffic signs.
Other assistants include adaptive cruise control, active lane departure warning and a lane departure warning system. There is also a speed limiter that adapts the driven speed to the information on the recognized traffic signs, a high beam assistant that is active from 40 km /h and a blind spot assistant that is only offered in the top equipment.
