A ls World Championship boss Gérard Neveu announced an additional ninth race for 2016 in Mexico at the World Championship run in Austin, the LMP1 manufacturers Audi, Porsche and Toyota in particular were shocked. Neveu had assured them at the Nürburgring that there would be eight races.

It was only on the eve of the announcement that the World Cup boss attacked the manufacturers with the news, but at the same time made the promise that the additional race should be shown cost-neutral because the promoter of the Mexico race would subsidize freight and travel expenses wants to take over.

Delta between costs and subsidy

But at the World Championship run in Fuji there was none Clarity how much this grant will be. 'We are really disappointed with how the calendar vote went and very upset that we were informed so late,' said Toyota TMG boss Rob Leupen. All three LMP1 manufacturers are waiting for specific figures on how high the promoter's grant will be. 'There will definitely be a delta between costs and subsidies,' says LMP1 Porsche team boss Fritz Enzinger.

All three manufacturers have to cover the difference in a supplementary budget. 'If we don't get the money from the board, we may not be driving in Mexico,' said Rob Leupen.
