D he formula E has already changed since established a few years ago. The manufacturers flood the racing series that takes place in large metropolises. The Electric GT series, on the other hand, was more of a stumbling block. It was founded in March 2016. Actually, the new racing series with Tesla racing cars should have started last year. Seven events were planned in Europe. But nothing came of it. In November 2018 it should finally be ready. The Electric GT series has since been renamed. It is now called the “Electric Production Car Series”.

Tesla Model S P100D with racing technology

The Tesla Model S P100D serves as the base car. The racing version has the somewhat bulky name EPCS V2.3 Tesla P100DL. The production vehicle had to be converted in many areas for use on the racetrack. Except for the rear wing and the wider fenders, the changes in terms of aerodynamics were limited. The modifications in the interior are more noticeable. Everything that is not needed for racing was thrown out.

In order to get the FIA certificate, some safety precautions had to be implemented. The GT version of the Tesla Model S has a roll bar and a fire extinguishing system. In contrast, the large display on the center console has remained. The chassis and brakes have been modified for the racetrack.

The organizers state a maximum output of 585 kilowatts for the racing version. That's 795 hp. The maximum torque of the electric racing car should amount to 995 Newton meters. The race-ready Tesla P100DL should sprint to 100 km /h in 2.1 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 250 km /h.

Electric GT series starts in 2017 with 20 Tesla Model S GT

The Electric Production Car Series will stop in Jerez, Spain in November. After that, races in France, Germany, Holland, Great Britain and Portugal are planned. The season finale is scheduled for October 2019 in Vallelunga near Rome.
