N only 16 drivers crossed the finish line in the first Hockenheim race - 8 and thus a third of the field fell by the wayside due to collisions. The last time there was an even higher failure rate at the 2010 season finale. Back then, only nine out of 18 starters crossed the finish line at an unprecedented crash festival - a negative DTM record that still exists today!

Tomczyk-Paffett crash causes discussions

Among those who suffered in Hockenheim also counted Mercedes driver Gary Paffett, who again clashed with his 'favorite opponent' Martin Tomczyk. The BMW driver spun with his M4 for no apparent reason and met Paffett and his ART team colleague Lucas Auer.

Paffett then let his frustration run wild and spoke of a 'stupid maneuver without any brains '. Tomczyk is an 'idiot' and he is 'out of control'! As is now clear, however, Paffett caused a lot of ado about nothing in the media. Incidentally, his former boss, today's ARD TV expert Norbert Haug, was already convinced of this during the ARD live broadcast. 'I don't think you can really blame Tomczyk,' said Haug.

Tomczyk doesn't brake too late

This is also the opinion of the DMSB stewards and the two race consultants Dirk Adorf and Bernd Mayländer. After analyzing the data, there was no reason to punish Tomczyk. Because: According to our information, the Schnitzer pilot braked earlier and not too late as many claimed. When asked why the rear axle allegedly blocked, there is still no answer.
