N a, you really can't do Lynk & Co accuse hesitant behavior. The brand offered by the Chinese Geely Group has only existed since autumn 2016, and it has been selling its first cars at home for almost a year. The Asians have now announced that they will be launching a motorsport program that will lead them into the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) of the FIA, the world’s motorsport association, as early as 2019. So it goes straight to the World Touring Car Championship, which operated as WTCC until 2017 and is traditionally fiercely competitive.

Cooperation with a world championship team

So that Lynk & Co with the Geely Motorsport Group is immediately competitive, one cooperates with one of the best teams that international touring car racing has to offer: Cyan Racing takes care of the racing cars in the WTCR. The Swedes have so far used Volvos, which the local driver Thed Björk drove to the championship title in 2017. The team classification also went to Cyan in the same year. So now the move to Lynk & Co., which only makes you suspicious at first glance. After all, Volvo is also part of the Geely Group, which now wants to boost awareness of its new brand - with as many successes as possible on the international racetracks.

The car that the Chinese will be using is not yet being used sold. The Lynk & Co limousine 03 debuted as a concept study at the Shanghai auto show in April 2017 and will go on sale in China at the end of 2018; in Europe in 2019 at the earliest. In the WTCR, the Chinese not only want to learn for the series development of their car models, but also aim to develop a performance model together with Cyan Racing. It will be called Lynk & Co 03 Cyan and will be based on the WTCR racing car not only in name but also in appearance. The manufacturer and racing team are aiming for an engine output of around 500 hp.

350 hp two-liter turbo gasoline engine in the racing car

This means that the road car will be significantly more powerful than the racing car, which is limited by the technical regulations becomes. The Lynk & Co 03 is classified according to the TCR regulations, which allow a maximum of two-liter turbo engines. Accordingly, it is powered by a four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine with a good 350 hp and 420 Newton meters. The power transmission takes over a sequential six-speed gear shiftSteering wheel paddles. The rules of course prescribe a roll cage, bucket seats with six-point racing belts, fire extinguishing system and safety cell and allow fully adjustable dampers. The front is decelerated with six-piston calipers with 380 discs and at the rear with two-piston counterparts that bite into 278-millimeter discs. The brake system sits in rims measuring 10 x 18 inches. The racing car weighs 1,265 kilograms.

2017 Campion Thed Björk, who is currently driving for Hyundai in the WTCR, is returning to his old team for the adventure with Lynk and co. And as impatient as the Chinese have presented themselves since they were founded, it should not be long before he is driving for his next world title. In addition to Björk, Yvan Muller and Andy Priaulx will also take the wheel for the Chinese.
