Terms can sometimes be very confusing. The word brand cup belongs in this category in German usage. The term triggers a chain of associations that are completely inapplicable in the present case: One automatically thinks of front-wheel drive, camping car with trailer and racing car on top, of the evening menu in the paddock with racing sausage and bottled beer - and of classic low-budget racing. In any case, you would never think of a Lamborghini.
The road car is the same as the racing car
D Nevertheless, a traditional brand cup has a large one for every manufacturer Charm, because firstly, the brand always wins, defeat is impossible. And secondly, you can bring the greatest possible closeness to series production on the racetrack and thus create optimal identification with the product: the road car is the racing car. At least almost. Lamborghini has also succumbed to this charm since 2009, with the name of the iconic Italian sports car manufacturer booming so loudly that no one would think of associating it with a one-make cup.
The name of the series is peppered with superlatives: Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo. That sounds like expensive cars, fine watches, a great atmosphere and a titanium card from American Express. In fact, the new racing series fully lives up to its luxurious sound in practice. Nobody has to cart their racing car to the track with a trailer. Instead, the concept is called: Arrive and Drive. Arrive, get in, take off. For the noble moments of the muse in between, the organizers have put the well-being of their pilots at the center of interest: The Super Trofeo Village, for example, in which of course not disdainful drinks and meals are served, but joie de vivre is celebrated at a high level.
Anyone who can afford a Lamborghini has certain demands. Anyone who can afford a Lamborghini racing car has about twice as high demands. The organizers take this into account in every respect. On request, the journey can also be organized or hotels booked. You can concentrate on the essentials - and that is still driving, even with this ultimate form of one-make cup. And here, too, disappointments are absolutely impossible: A Lamborghini Gallardo LP-560-4 with 570 horsepower and 1,350 kilos shortens every straight to onelightning-like acceleration phase.
Professional pilots and ambitious amateur racing drivers
Because, according to the regulations, professional pilots are allowed to compete as well as ambitious amateur racing drivers, the all-wheel drive was left in the car for the sake of balance. This leads to an extremely casual handling of the rampant power of the 5.2 liter V10 engine. The automated gearbox from the production car makes changing gears child's play - no fiddling around with double-declutching and clutch. Instead, full concentration on late braking points thanks to Pirelli slicks and the friendly but determined battles with colleagues from the brand. There is really no shortage of driving time: 30 minutes of practice and 30 minutes of qualifying are followed by no less than three 40-minute races with a mandatory driver change.
In addition, the participants get a lot to see with the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo: Cult racetracks such as Spa and Paul Ricard are on the calendar, as are the great cities of Brno and Budapest. The racing series starts on its European tour in the supporting program of high-quality championships such as the DTM or the FIA GT series. Brand cup? Not a trace!
