Piquet first di Grassi pursuer

A nice one Side story: Like his father, Piquet Junior clinched his first triumph in a new racing series at Long Beach. For his part, Piquet Senior had won the Formula 1 GP USA West. That was in 1980, also in Long Beach.

Jean-Éric Vergne came second behind Piquet. The Frenchman was 1.705 seconds short of the China Racing driver at the finish. Lucas di Grassi secured the remaining podium for Abt. The Brazilian took over the championship lead with 75 points. On his neck is Piquet with 74 points, followed by Nicolas Prost with 69 points.

The two German drivers in the field finished the race in Long Beach outside of the top 10. Nick Heidfeld remained in 11th place with no points, Daniel The young man from Kempten was able to take home three points that he collected for his pole position. He inherited first place on the grid when Sébastien Buemi was relegated. The Swiss had exceeded the allowed amount of energy in qualifying, whereupon his fastest lap was canceled.
