Bird defends Argentina victory against Buemi attacks

As the Aguri racer from Felix Da Costa rolled out on lap 17 with a technical problem, Buemi had already worked his way up to 5th position. The field narrowed in the neutralization, which Buemi was able to grab his Renault team-mate Nicolas Prost at the mandatory pit stop. The world championship leader conceded second-placed Lucas di Grassi only a short time later at the restart. The Abt pilot had lost momentum when attacking the leader Sam Bird, which Buemi took advantage of.

In the final laps there was an intense duel between Bird and Buemi for the Argentine capital in front of 17,000 spectators Victory. But the Briton defended himself according to all the rules of the art and managed to keep his Swiss rival behind. At the finish, the DS Virgin and the E-Dams Renault were only 0.7 seconds apart.

Despite his terrific race to catch up, Buemi was not entirely satisfied with 2nd place: 'I'm sorry for my team. My car was very good today, but I didn't get the maximum out of it. The race itself was great, but also tough. Except for Da Costa, who broke down, I had to overtake all the other guys. I was certainly very lucky with the safety car. Without it it would have been a lot more difficult. '
