B The traditional DTM opener at Hockenheim this year was particularly spectacular down to business. In the first race on Saturday (May 7th, 2016) a lot of kindling was produced right from the start. Only 16 of the 24 vehicles that started saw the checkered flag in the end. Edoardo Mortara was the first to roll over the line. The Audi driver moved up to the front from second place at the start and then stayed out of all skirmishes. 1.6 seconds back, Mercedes driver Robert Wickens was second. Nico Müller (Audi), who started from pole position, celebrated his first DTM podium with third place.

However, the star of the race was Gary Paffet. The Mercedes driver had to do a lap of honor through the pit lane after an Unsafe Release penalty, but still fought his way up to 5th place. The British veteran was the only driver in the field who could keep up with the pace of winner Di Resta.

Audi had gambled away with a tire poker in qualifying. In the end, the best RS5 driver was Nico Müller in 7th position. In the overall standings, Paul di Resta left Hockenheim as the best with 37 points. Mercedes colleague Robert Wickens is second with 28 points after 2 races. Edoardo Mortara takes third place with 25 points for his Saturday win.
