A l-Attiyah showed real fighting spirit in his race to catch up. While the deficit on stage 10 was 10.06 minutes, it decreased continuously. In today's stage from San Rafael to Santa Rosa in Argentina, Al-Attiyah made up 2.32 minutes on the duo Sainz /Cruz. Third place in the overall ranking continues to be occupied by VW team-mates Mark Miller /Timo Gottschalk. With a gap of 31.48 minutes, however, they fight with blunt weapons against the competition from their own camp.
Competition between Sainz and Al-Attiyah is increasing
The day's victory of the 725 kilometer long and very fast stage went to Stéphane Peterhansel /Jean-Paul Cottret in the X-raid- BMW ahead of Al-Attiyah, Sainz finished fourth. Peterhansel is the fastest pursuer of the VW trio at the top, but has no chance anymore due to the lag of 02: 16.49 hours, among other things due to the broken cardan shaft on the fifth stage.
The decision is noticeable the 206-kilometer final test on Saturday, which will lead from San Rafael to the Argentine capital Buenos Aires.
