L Kimi Raikkonen is slowly getting serious. After he completed his first shakedown with the Citroen C4 WRC last week, his first appearance under competitive conditions is now on the agenda. At the Arctic Lapland Rally, the former Formula 1 driver wants to focus on the season opener in Sweden. For reinforcement, Citroen is sending Dani Sordo a second C4 WRC onto the snow-covered slopes.

In a cozy ten grand minus, the Finnish-Spanish duo has to cover around 214 kilometers on twelve stages on January 29 and 30. The fact that the sun near the Arctic Circle only appears above the horizon at 10 a.m. does not bother the organizers any more than the twilight that sets in at 3 p.m. Driving is between eight in the morning and nine in the evening. Large parts of the route are completed in the dark.

Räikkönen's first test under competitive conditions

Kimi Räikkönen, who was still in the Formula 1 Ferrari was on the road, there is a lot to learn in the first season. Although the blond from Espoo has already mastered the Lapland rally in 2009, the rally newcomer is under special observation this year. 'The rally is a good opportunity to work with the team under competitive conditions and to continue my learning process with the car,' said the 2007 F1 world champion. 'I already competed here with Kaj (Lindström) last year. That the route is almost is the same, could help us a bit. '

As Citroen team manager Benoit Nogier confirmed, Raikkonen will contest the rest of the year with the same car as in Lapland. His crew of mechanics at the Rovaniemi service center will also accompany him through the season. 'This experience will be important both for the team and for the individual crews,' explained Nogier.
