T he team whose field of activity is usually the Porsche Carrera Cup and the BFGoodrich endurance championship is, will be competing again this year with two Porsche 997 GT3 Cups.
Gabriel Abergel, Xavier Pompidou, Carsten Tilke and Otto Klohs wear the coveted start number 1. Pompidou and Klohs joined the team, while Abergel and Tilke celebrated overall victory with Land Motorsport last year. The sister car, which had to give up prematurely in 2009 with a fire at the rear, is driven by Jürgen Häring, Taki Konstantinou, René Münnich and Nordschleife professional Marc Basseng.
Touring car professionals Asch and Thiim
This year, a dazzling name from Formula 1 is missing from the starting field, but such well-known touring car aces as Roland Asch and Kurt Thiim insist on starting their 2010 racing season in Dubai. The two drive together in a Porsche 997 GT3 Cup for the German Besaplast Racing Team. The name Asch is represented here twice - son Sebastian Asch also competes with this car. In addition, the team also uses a BMW M3 with professionals like Frank Schmickler or Jörg Hardt.
Master team of the BFGoodrich endurance championship at the start
Also an old friend in the starting field of the 24h race in Dubai is the Black Falcon Team, which won the 2009 BFGoodrich Endurance Championship. The champions also rely on a BMW M3 and a BMW Z4 M Coupé.
Claudia Hürtgen also relies on this car. Together with her German teammate Marko Hartung, she drives the Z4 Coupé for the Arab team Al Faisal Racing. The German team Rhinos Leipert Motorsport dares to do an experiment: for the first time an Ascari will take part in a 24h race.
The race starts on Friday at 2 pm and ends on Saturday at the same time. Before that, two free practice sessions, qualifying and night practice are on the program on Thursday.
