P politics, politics, politics. This is usually what it is all about until the start of a 24h race at the Nürburgring. Until then, the technical committee of the ADAC Nordrhein can still adjust the different GT3 vehicles that are fighting for the overall victory.

Poker until shortly before the race

This is why it is usually in the top -30 qualifying still played. After all, the starting position in a long-distance race is not that important. With what power you drive over 24 hours, however.

Even before the event, the technical committee made some adjustments. Good for some manufacturers, less good for others. On the basis of the data collected in the previous VLN races, there was a new balance of performance compared to the second VLN race.

Aston Martin and Mercedes could be happy. Aston got a 0.6 millimeter larger air restrictor, Mercedes was allowed to drive with a 1 millimeter larger air restrictor, but had to load ten kilograms. Audi, Bentley and Nissan, on the other hand, had to accept cuts. The new Audi R8 was trimmed back to an air restrictor that was 0.7 millimeters smaller, Bentley by 1 millimeter and Nissan by 3 millimeters.

On Friday afternoon, fine-tuning was done again. Because changes to the air restrictor are often not possible at such short notice, work was mainly carried out with weight. Aston Martin lost 10 kilograms, as did Nissan and the Porsche 911 GT3 R. Audi got an adjustment of the tank restrictor. In addition, the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR from the SP-Pro, as used by the Wochenspiegel Team Manthey, was granted a 0.4 millimeter larger restrictor.
