D he new Volvo S60, which was presented at the end of 2018, is now available available on the German market. The sedan will be the first Volvo ever built in the USA and will initially come to us with four engines.
Engines from 190 to 390 hp
The engine range includes three turbo gasoline engines and a plug-in hybrid drive . The T4, T5 and T6 AWD models develop 190 PS, 250 PS or 310 PS from a displacement of two liters. In the T8 Twin Engine AWD, the 303 hp petrol engine is supplemented by a 65 kW electric motor, and the system output increases to 390 hp. All engines are linked to an eight-speed automatic. T4 and T5 rely on front-wheel drive, T6 and T8 on all-wheel drive. For the T8, Volvo offers a Polestar tuning right from the start. With this, the power of the T8 should increase to 415 hp and the torque to 670 Nm. The tuning also includes chassis components: springs and dampers as well as the strut brace come from the Polestar 1 electric coupé. Gold-colored brake calipers can be seen behind the slender wheels - the distinguishing feature of Polestar tuning.
Are available the S60 models in the R-Design and Inscription equipment variants, with the latter only being offered for the T8. The R-Design variant includes a sports suspension, special front and rear aprons, a sports radiator grille, exterior mirrors in high-gloss black, aluminum door sills, leather gearshift levers, sports pedals, sports seats, a sports leather steering wheel and an anthracite-colored headliner. Inscription comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, chrome applications on the front, rear and side windows as well as chrome-plated trapezoidal tailpipes. There are also leather comfort seats with four-way electrically adjustable lumbar support, real wood inlays and a shift lever made of crystal glass.

In terms of safety equipment, the S60 offers an emergency braking system with pedestrian, Cyclist and wildlife detection. There is also an active lane departure warning system, traffic sign recognition, road edge detection and run-off road protection. The standard equipment includes an infotainment system with nine-inch touchscreen and internet access and two-zone air conditioning.
Prices start at 43,200 euros for the T4, the T5 from 46,200 euros and the T8 from 59,150 euros . The T6 will only be available from mid-November 2019 and will then cost from 52,150 euros.
Swedish-sporty chic in the interior
The interior is the same like the station wagon V60. The central element in the limousine is the large touchscreen. The system masters Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto. The operating logic learned for Volvo drivers is also the same as in the V60. The digitally programmable instrument cluster provides the driver with easy-to-read information at eye level. According to the developers, the materials have been improved again and that is noticeable. The leather is pleasantly soft and also gives the S60 a sporty look with its color-contrasting seams. In the interior, the sporty Swede needn't fear the premium competitors from Germany. The noble, sporty chick with its usual clear lines convinces at first glance.
We can congratulate head designer Thomas Ingenlath: The new S60 is really a feast for the eyes. The cab between the A and C pillars is much flatter than its predecessor. The bead on the shoulder was completely eliminated. There is now a kind of shadow gap a hand's breadth above the sill. As a result, the sedan now looks sportier and more elegant at the same time.
The eye-catching headlights really give the S60 a face - better slit eyes. The hood falls off very little. The steeply sloping front with the large onesAir intakes on the left and right make the vehicle look much more aggressive. The rear, with the U-shaped taillights, and the two chrome-colored exhaust openings, make the Swedish speedster appear almost like a circuit racing car. Overall, the exterior of the new S60 looks much more coherent and mature than its predecessor.
As mentioned, the cockpit does not hold any surprises. Everything known from the station wagon brother V60. And everything is always beautiful. Because the clear design with the horizontal, leather-covered dashboard brings calm into the car - now also for the eye. The leather seats are soft as butter. And the driver's seat can be adjusted using electric seat adjustment - regardless of whether you are 1.90 meters or 1.60 meters tall.
A similar surprise in the rear. There you sit exceptionally generously for a mid-range sedan and, as a so-called giant, you can still enjoy enough headroom. That is also the reason why Volvo boss Hakan Samuelsson does not have the S60 produced in China as a long version but in the same dimensions as in the USA and Europe.
Volvo boss Hakan Samuelsson describes the S60 as “real Driver's car ”and hopes for growth opportunities, especially in the sedan markets of the USA and China. The S60 is positioned as a sports sedan; The engines are accordingly powerful at the start.
