The Tesla Model 3 Performance, which costs 64,965 euros, is ready for a consumption check. We determined an average consumption of 24.9 kWh.
When it comes to attention, Tesla relies on Elon Musk's Twitter account rather than advertising. Even at the football final, the brand was left out, although the Model 3 offers a lot to knit commercials with. ,
For example the light show function, in which the exterior lighting, trunk lid, windows and audio system perform a car dance. Or the external speaker, which serves as a (cheap) boom box or megaphone when stationary. There is also a racing game controlled by the steering wheel, as well as Netflix and YouTube. And more impressive than the fart sound function is the glass roof, which extends from the windshield to the tailgate, interrupted only by a strut. And what about the fuel and maintenance costs?
Our test consumption
Tesla specifies a WLTP consumption of 16.5 kWh per 100 kilometers for the Model 3 Performance. He moves away from this value in everyday life. We have determined an average consumption of 24.9 kWh, which causes electricity costs of 13.20 euros per 100 kilometers. On the Eco lap, the Tesla used 18.2 kWh, while on the Commuter route it consumed 24.1 kWh. If the Tesla was moved in a sporty manner, consumption rose to 35.6 kWh. In November 2022, auto motor und sport calculated a total average price per kWh of charging current for using an electric car in Germany: 52.96 (rounded 53) cents.
Monthly maintenance costs
If you drive as resource-efficiently as we do on our eco tour, you reduce the electricity costs for 100 kilometers to 9.65 euros. The rather violent gait resulted in a sum of 18.87 euros. The vehicle tax costs 0 euros per year for the Tesla, the liability insurance is 534 euros. Partial and fully comprehensive insurance cost an additional 141 and 1,012 euros respectively. Monthly maintenance costs of 292 euros are paid by those who drive the Tesla 15,000 kilometers a year. If the mileage is doubled, the sum increases to 528 euros. We leave out the loss in value in this calculation.
This is how it is tested
This is how auto motor und sport measures the power consumption: 70% commuter consumption: short distances of 21 km driven several times with 70% city, 30% overland share. 15% eco-consumption: economically driven driving profile using the maximum range with urban, rural and motorway sections. Motorway speed 130 km/h. 15% sports driver consumption: Constant driving with 80% Vmax (maximum 160 km/h) plus consumption information from a comparison drive, country road and motorway.
The monthly maintenance costs include maintenance, wear part costs and vehicle taxes assuming an annual mileage of 15,000 and 30,000 kilometers without loss of value. The basis for the calculation is the test consumption, a three-year holding period, no-claims class SF12 for liability and fully comprehensive insurance with Allianz including discounts for garage parkers and the restriction to certain drivers (not under 21). At Allianz, SF12 offers a discount rate of 34 percent for liability and 28 percent for comprehensive insurance. ,
Conclusion
In the auto motor und sport test consumption, the 64,965 euro Tesla Model 3 Performance ended up with an average value of 24.9 kWh per 100 kilometers. This means that the electricity costs over this distance are 13.20 euros. The monthly maintenance costs are 292 euros (15,000 km annual mileage) or 528 euros (30,000 km annual mileage).
