Costs and real consumption: BMW 330d Touring

The BMW 330d Touring, which costs 63,630 euros, comes up for a consumption check.

Since the filling up has been in the three-digit euro range, we naturally particularly appreciate the high fun density per liter. Enjoy this special use of torque all the more, this wave on which it washes the car away. The boost that creates a cozy dimness. And which is not at all reminiscent of clumsily pouring out a full bucket - as is often the case with electric cars when they blow out all the power reserves at once when accelerating. No, the transition from a little to a lot is as quick as it is soft with the good diesel engine. And with full draft it tingles up the coccyx. ,

Just like the BMW 330d Touring. We want to use last year's facelift of the classic to pay homage to the exceptional diesel, as long as the three-liter can still give the three a similar impact experience as the petrol engines of the M world. One has to worry about the continued existence of this self-igniting cream, because the politically decreed eradication of combustion engines primarily pursues short-term CO₂ goals – and sustainability over a long (worldwide) service life is not (or no longer) important. Accordingly, the legislative requirements are sweeping all special features off the technical map, motor simplicity is spreading where diversity has previously reigned. Even in the three-series, BMW uses the in-line six-cylinder only to improve the image of top models. It is actually part of the technical tradition. And what about the fuel and maintenance costs?

Our test consumption

BMW specifies a WLTP consumption of 5.8 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers for the 330d Touring. He moves away from this value in everyday life. We have determined an average consumption of 7.0 liters, which causes fuel costs of 11.90 euros per 100 kilometers. On the Eco lap, the BMW consumed 5.4 liters while consuming 7.0 liters on the commuter route. If the BMW was moved in a sporty manner, consumption rose to 8.8 liters. The fuel costs are calculated using the daily updated fuel price on our partner portal refuel more (December 22, 2022 /diesel: 1.70 euros/litre).

Monthly maintenance costs

If you drive as resource-efficiently as we do on our eco tour, you reduce the fuel costs for 100 kilometers to 9.18 euros. The rather violent gait results in a sum of 14.96 euros. The vehicle tax costs 436 euros per year for the BMW, the liability insurance is 449 euros. Partial and fully comprehensive insurance cost an additional 276 and 914 euros respectively. Monthly maintenance costs of 343 euros are paid by those who drive the BMW 15,000 kilometers a year. If the mileage is doubled, the sum increases to 599 euros. We leave out the loss in value in this calculation.

How to test

The auto motor und sport test consumption consists of three differently weighted consumption runs. So-called “commuter consumption” accounts for 70 percent. This is a journey from home to work, which averages 21 kilometers. A particularly economical, approx. 275-kilometre-long eco-lap is included in the rating with 15 percent. The remaining 15 percent is accounted for by the sports driver lap. The length is roughly the same as the Eco lap, but the route includes a larger proportion of motorway and thus higher speeds on average. The basis for calculating the fuel costs is always the price quoted on the "more tanken" portal on the day the article was created.

The monthly maintenance costs include maintenance, wear part costs and vehicle taxes assuming an annual mileage of 15,000 and 30,000 kilometers without loss of value. The basis for the calculation is the test consumption, a three-year holding period, no-claims class SF12 for liability and fully comprehensive insurance with Allianz including discounts for garage parkers and the restriction to certain drivers (not under 21). At Allianz, SF12 offers a discount rate of 34 percent for liability and 28 percent for comprehensive insurance. ,

Conclusion

In the auto motor und sport test consumption, the BMW 330d Touring, which costs 63,630 euros and has 286 hp, ends up with an average value of 7.0 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers. This means that the fuel costs for this distance are 11.90 euros. The monthly maintenance costs are 343 euros (15,000 km annual mileage) or 599 euros (30,000 km annual mileage).
