The Polestar 2 Performance Upgrade, which costs 62,470 euros, is used for a consumption check. We determined an average consumption of 28.4 kWh.
Polestar adopts an aggressive tone in its Super Bowl advertising. It dispenses with people and speakers, instead firing a series of text statements about detailed shots of the Polestar 2. The swipes are aimed at VW and Tesla: "No Dieselgate. No dirty secrets. No conquering Mars. No blah blah blah." The K.I.T.T ("Knight Rider") animation of the LED taillights can also be seen, otherwise the color scheme remains monochrome with the exception of the brake calipers painted in Swedish Gold.
, The Brembo brakes are part of the €6,000 performance package, which also includes tool-adjustable Öhlins rebound and compression dampers. Our test car was also increased in performance from 408 to 476 hp. Anyone who already owns a 2 with two synchronous motors can order the software boost for 1,000 euros (plus entry in the papers) via an over-the-air update. And what about the fuel and maintenance costs?
Our test consumption
Polestar specifies a WLTP consumption of 19.4 kWh per 100 kilometers for the 2 Performance Upgrade. He moves away from this value in everyday life. We determined an average consumption of 28.4 kWh, which results in electricity costs of 15.05 euros per 100 kilometers. On the Eco lap, the Polestar used 22.2 kWh, while on the Commuter route it consumed 27.4 kWh. If the Polestar was moved in a sporty manner, consumption rose to 39.2 kWh. In November 2022, auto motor und sport calculated a total average price per kWh of charging current for using an electric car in Germany: 52.96 (rounded 53) cents.
Monthly maintenance costs
If you drive as resource-efficiently as we do on our eco tour, you reduce the electricity costs for 100 kilometers to 11.77 euros. The rather violent gait resulted in a sum of 20.78 euros. The vehicle tax costs 0 euros per year for the Polestar, the liability insurance is 457 euros. Partial and fully comprehensive insurance cost an additional 178 and 912 euros respectively. Monthly maintenance costs of 316 euros are paid by those who drive the Polestar 15,000 kilometers a year. If the mileage is doubled, the sum increases to 578 euros. We leave out the loss in value in this calculation.
This is how it is tested
This is how auto motor und sport measures the power consumption: 70% commuter consumption: short distances of 21 km driven several times with 70% city, 30% overland share. 15% eco-consumption: economically driven driving profile using the maximum range with urban, rural and motorway sections. Motorway speed 130 km/h. 15% sports driver consumption: Constant driving with 80% Vmax (maximum 160 km/h) plus consumption information from a comparison drive, country road and motorway.
The monthly maintenance costs include maintenance, wear part costs and vehicle taxes assuming an annual mileage of 15,000 and 30,000 kilometers without loss of value. The basis for the calculation is the test consumption, a three-year holding period, no-claims class SF12 for liability and fully comprehensive insurance with Allianz including discounts for garage parkers and the restriction to certain drivers (not under 21). At Allianz, SF12 offers a discount rate of 34 percent for liability and 28 percent for comprehensive insurance. ,
Conclusion
In the auto motor und sport test consumption, the Polestar 2 Performance Upgrade, which costs 62,470 euros, ends up with an average value of 28.4 kWh per 100 kilometers. This means that the electricity costs over this distance are 15.05 euros. The monthly maintenance costs are 316 euros (15,000 km annual mileage) or 578 euros (30,000 km annual mileage).
