D he certainly doesn't want to fight for world domination , and otherwise Alpina is still far from any hint of megalomania. The small series manufacturer just had to look for a niche in the BMW range after a three-cylinder with four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel in the current F30 generation was already available from the factory - but not yet a real over-diesel. So the three-liter engine known from the D5 moves into the 3 Series.

BMW Alpina D3 Biturbo develops 350 hp

Compared to the BMW base, a modified one helps it Air duct with a larger cross-section and 0.2 bar more boost pressure to 350 instead of 313 hp. The six-cylinder sounds pretty brisk and robust, the country boy, with a deep voice amplified by the Akrapovic exhaust system. The maximum torque of the BMW Alpina D3 Biturbo of 700 Newton meters already ensures full employment on the rear axle at 1,500 revolutions, even the 265/35 tires are defeated by the raw diesel force.

Since the engine works up to 3,000 rpm, so to speak, at double-level torque, the modified automatic transmission quickly flits through its eight gears so that the highest can comfortably remove the thick layer of cream - despite the shorter rear axle (2.81 instead of 2.56). Racetrack? Oh, if you have to. The BMW Alpina D3 Biturbo prefers to fast forward on country roads and motorways, where it plays the trump cards of its modified suspension setup.

Specifically: Despite the standard 19-inch tires (20-inch with all-wheel drive), the BMW Alpina D3 Biturbo takes every kind of bump seriously, bounces over them tightly without giving up. Even the sport mode of the adaptive dampers does not result in mutiny from the passengers.

BMW Alpina D3 Biturbo balanced balanced

Accordingly, the lateral inclination is manageable in curves, which can be downgraded at a rather brisk pace before the front wheels begin to whimper. Passionate, heated contact with the right pedal, on the other hand, lets the rear of the BMW Alpina D3 Biturbo smear away, but only if the perfectly coordinated control electronics have been released from their duties beforehand. Between these extremes, the BMW Alpina D3 Biturbo delivers the brand typicalUncompromisingness that a BMW designed for almost all global markets occasionally misses. So world domination is not so desirable.
