BMW 5 Series in the configurator: One click can cost 42,750 euros

D he BMW 5 Series is a real one Technology carrier, it always has been. The youngest generation of Bavarians is packed accordingly. State-of-the-art assistants, more extensive electrification, fully networked and, if desired, with really tasty under the hood. You can already configure the new BMW and of course we clicked on too. The 5 Series will be available from dealers from July, followed by the new plug-in models later in the year. Let's take a long look at what is currently the maximum that can be extracted.

Everything at the beginning - the basic model costs 49,100 euros.

Basic model and standard equipment

The starting bid is 49,100 euros in a region where the list of surcharges ends for other cars. Sure, the 5 Series was never a bargain. The basic 520i model comes with black solid paint, 17-inch alloy wheels, fabric upholstery for the seats, automatic air conditioning, PDC, 10.25-inch touchscreen, sports leather steering wheel and - oh wonder! - digital radio reception, for which manufacturers usually and inappropriately still usually pay 200 to 300 euros. The well-known 184 hp four-cylinder is responsible for the basic drive.

With just one click you don't just change the model variant, but is also more than 40,000 euros poorer.

Well, that would have defined the starting point - time for a few extras. Even the first check mark costs us 42,750 euros (!). What did we click there? No bath in liquid gold, but a change in the model variant. Instead of home cooking, delicacies à la M Automobile are served. One click and the 520i becomes an M550i xDrive with a 530 PS V8. It is clear that such a car cannot appear in a simple paintwork. That's why we're donating the Aventurine Red II Metallic, which costs 2,300 euros. As a consequence, 20-inch models also have to be. The footwear costs almost 2,000 euros.

Full leather and plum wood

This is then used for the interior work. Just change the leather upholstery? 'Wait a minute,' says BMW. That will be a little more expensive than expected. Individual full leather in smoke white is actually available for 3,150 euros, but the Bavarians also want to include the instrument panel, have active seat ventilation booked and electrically adjustable comfort seats installed. In total, the leather pleasure costs 4,450 euros. Of course, all of this only works in combination with the finest plum wood strips for 630 euros.

The beguiling combination of smoky white and plum is unfortunately not cheap.

BMW offers three packages for our previous configuration. Business package, winter joy package and innovation package - we'll take them all for a further 7,800 euros. There is, among other things, seat heating for every seat, auxiliary heating, steering wheel heating, the display key, a head-up display and laser light. For 2,900 euros we can also retrofit all available assistants and treat ourselves to a few extras such as gesture control, remote-controlled parking, sun blinds, soft-close doors and a massage function.

84,130 eurosmore expensive than the base

The adaptive M chassis Professional with roll stabilization and integral active steering costs 4,130 euros and is also selected. Some cosmetic details follow, such as a ceramic finish for the controls, the inevitable shadowline, M Sport belts, tinted windows and a dark headliner.

In the end, the sum of 133,230 euros is on the sales contract.

Expensive it will be again in the area of ​​in-flight entertainment. TV function, rear seat entertainment and hi-fi system add up to 8,000 euros. Finally, there are red brake calipers for 400 euros and the final price is fixed: BWW would like to have 133,230 euros for the 5 Series configured by us - and we would like a loan.
