Subscriptions & booklets

D he sporty S models of the Audi A6 and A7 series will be competing in Europe with a high-performance turbo diesel under the bonnet. For the first time, Audi is combining an electrically powered compressor with a 48-volt main electrical system. The three-liter V6 TDI in the S models therefore has an output of 349 hp and a maximum torque of 700 Nm, which can be accessed from as little as 2,500 rpm. Power is transmitted in both models by an eight-speed automatic in conjunction with the permanent Quattro all-wheel drive.

The speed limit is 250 km /h

The new V6 TDI accelerates the new S6 Sedan in 5.0 seconds from 0 to 100 km /h, with the S6 Avant and S7 Sportback, the standard sprint takes a tenth of a second longer. The electronically limited top speed is reached at 250 km /h.

Audi

The 48-volt MHEV system consists of a belt starter generator (RSG) and a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 10 Ah in the vehicle floor below the trunk. The RSG is connected to the crankshaft. When decelerating, it can recuperate up to 8 kW of power and feed the electricity generated into the lithium-ion battery. When accelerating, the RSG starts the engine quickly again.

The MHEV technology allows start-stop operation from a speed of 22 km /h. This means that the S models should achieve fuel savings of up to 0.4 liters in real driving conditions and can sail for up to 40 seconds with the combustion engine deactivated. In terms of consumption, Audi specifies 6.2 to 6.3 liters for the S6, while the S6 Avant and S7 should be 6.5 liters.

S models with expanded equipment

Zur Further features of the S models include a lowered sports suspension (S6: 20 mm; S7: 10 mm), a sports differential on the rear axle, adaptive dampers, 20-inch light alloy wheels with 255/40 tires and dynamic all-wheel steering. The sports brake system uses 400 mm discs at the front and 350 mm discs at the rear.Optionally, there is air suspension, 21 inchers and a ceramic brake system.

Visually, the S models stand out with a modified front apron, wider side skirts, a rear apron with rear diffuser and four tailpipe trims as well as decorative elements in aluminum and dark chrome the basic models. The interior of the S models is upgraded with expanded standard equipment and Alcantara sports seats.

The new large S models will debut in the European markets in summer 2019. Their base prices in Germany are: 76,500 euros for the S6 sedan, 79,000 euros for the S6 Avant and 82,750 euros for the S7 Sportback.

Outside Europe, the S6 and S7 models come with a 2.9 -Liter TFSI turbo gasoline engine with 450 PS and 600 Nm.
