J east Capito and Volkswagen will go their separate ways in the future. The 57-year-old sports director will leave his post this year in order to take on a new professional challenge. The engineer from Siegerland will be the new CEO at McLaren Racing. In his future position, as the liaison between corporate boss Ron Dennis and team boss Eric Boullier, he should bring the traditional racing team back on the road to success.

Jost Capito should bring success to McLaren

The change from VW Sports director from Wolfsburg to England came as a surprise to many. It was certainly not because of the lack of success that the experienced motorsport manager left the rally stage and migrated to Formula 1. Capito has been responsible for the Volkswagen brand's motorsport activities since mid-2012 and led the works team to the world championship title in the WRC in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

'We would like to thank Jost Capito for his extraordinarily committed and successful work Work for Volkswagen in motorsport. The 3 world championship titles with the Polo WRC represent the greatest sporting successes in the history of the Volkswagen brand and underline the technical competence of our company. With his transparent and far-sighted management style, Jost Capito has played a decisive role in this success ' , explained Frank Welsch, Member of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars Brand Board of Management for the Development division.

McLaren has been in contact with Capito since summer

McLaren is not the first stop for Capito in Formula 1. From 1996 to 2001 he worked in the management of Sauber. With the job at McLaren, the German is now returning to GP racing. Ron Dennis is convinced of the qualities of the newcomer: 'I approached Jost for the first time last summer. He is an impressive and ambitious person who loves competition,' says Dennis.

'He comes with a broad one A wealth of experience in the automotive sector and in motorsport to us. He not only knows his way around the WRC but also about sports and touring cars, motorcycle racing and Formula 1, which he knows a lot about and has an infectious passion. My name is Jost welcome and I am sure that he will work well with Eric and everyone else at McLaren Racing to lead the McLaren-Honda program to Grand Prix and World Championship wins after the good work that has already been done. '

Jonathan Neale, who most recently assumed the role of CEO at McLaren Racing, will followJoined McLaren Technology for 15 years on the racing team. There he takes over the post of Chief Operating Officer (COO). The role of team boss Eric Boullier will not change due to the personnel restructuring, stresses McLaren.

Speculation about VW's exit from the WRC

McLaren has to wait a little longer for the new addition. Jost Capito will continue his duties as VW Motorsport Director until his successor has been settled. With his departure, the speculation that Volkswagen will soon leave the WRC should be fueled again. In the wake of the emissions scandal, the group has to save on every corner. So far, however, the board of directors has always emphasized that the rally program is not affected by the cost-cutting measures. Officially, it should continue until 2019.
